Are you discussing a different time here?

We signed Gordon in January 2023, you are saying he did well from then onwards?

Yeas he came in and did well. Totally different level to Elanga altogether.

You seriously suggesting the two are comparable here?

He really wasn't like. You're getting yourself confused here. Gordon cane in and did well from the off. It's been later on where he's struggled.

This is just not true. Gordon was totally mediocre for the first few months. He only had one or two moments, and everyone was on his ass here.  He started playing well the following season.

I don't think he was as bad as Elanga but I'm simply challenging your point that he was good, that's just not true

He had the odd moment but loads of people were saying we have wasted money etc etc

Again I'm struggling to see your point mate. Longstaff already had some credit in the bank. He was steady away. Burn came in and did well. I've seen absolutely nothing of Elanga. Nowt at all to suggest he's got anything at all about him.

And he cost £55m. It's wasted money at this stage.

The point is this:

Targeting any of our own players with negativity from the stands, won’t make them play better.

And it was brought to life by saying:

Our match going fans have a track record of targeting our own players if they’re not playing well. It happened to Burn, Longstaff, Wood, Miggy and others.

Elanga is currently the one being targeted because he’s not playing well. And being targeted by fans won’t make him play better.

That’s all that was being said. I’m struggling to figure out how I can make it any more simple

He did fine That's why he wasn't a bit part player like Elanga is. I didn't want to like him. I thought he was a prick at Everton. I still remember getting ribbed in the pub before the match in the months after we signed him because he looked a canny player.

I'm targeting him from my sofa on a message board though. How's that having any sort of impact [emoji38]

I've been watching him since August and he's bloody hopeless!

Compared to times gone by he's had it easy from the crowd.

I was only talking about what happens in the ground

It's all connected.

People whip themselves up into a frenzy online all week and then vomit it out at the ground.

I wasn't in the ground today. Don't really think anyone has really whipped themselves into a frenzy in the ground over him as of yet mind. Doubt they're capable of it these days.

I think he's useless, you obviously think he isn't.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

The first....12 hours after a match are not the place to find opinions people will be willing to stand by after a day or two.

[emoji38] have avoided match threads past two matches during play. It’s been more enjoyable to say the least.

I don't really see any point in whinging constantly about him now tbh. He's like a deer in headlights right now, but he can still be a dangerous option off the bench. I'm not convinced he's got the mentality to make it at a big club, but Howe will probably still believe he can get him performing.

I've seen glimpses of good stuff so I would rather just let him settle in and he could be a good squad player. We've overpaid but it's done now.

Gordon was largely poor for us from signing until the end of that season

It's the following season when he was class and consistent but his first few months were not massively different to Elanga now

That’s true, but he came in mid season when we had a settled side and he was played in a number of positions. Elanga has pretty much been just RW, more established, and looked every bit worse then Gordon has ever looked.

I think you’ve misunderstood the point being made, which has since been derailed by squabbling.

Burn was given by me as an example of a player who consistently got loads of shite from the stands, he was playing LB and playing poorly, despite his best efforts.

Then someone suggested that giving players loads of shite from the stands was OK because Burn became good after getting loads of shite.

But the reason Burn became good was switching positions. Not because he got shite from the stands.

The original point being made was simply this:

If you shout abuse at our own player who’s playing poorly but trying hard, in most cases it won’t make them play better, it’ll make them worse.

I'm not condoning getting on our own players backs and sometimes we are guilty of over reacting but it's just out of frustration and a desire to see us win games. I think we all want Elanga to come good.

Who was useless until Eddie got hold of him. Taking longer to give Elanga the Howe upgrade I guess. [emoji38]

And arguably in general play he is still useless, some of his passing is atrocious

However, he puts in a cracking delivery and is fairly consistent with that

Is delivery not passing ?
