JoeyBartoon
He should get loads of confidence from that but tbh the way Barca play suits him. Will see if he can carry that over to a team in a low block

Such poor fundamentals. But this is a game he can be proud of him. Such a massive shame for him you can’t walk off with pride due to the score. The Prophet
Goals aside, it wasn't his best game, but it's mad there always has to be a caveat with him. He's scored twice at the Nou Camp. He plays well and doesn't score, we critique his end product. On the other hand, Barnes scores twice with little else in the way of contribution and we praise his clinical finishing. He's on a hiding to nothing here because no matter how good he gets, folks have already made up their minds about him.
QBG
All-round performance might not have been that great, but the first finish in particular should be a big confidence boost for him. Hopefully he can kick on from here.

I wonder if it's because of inherent bias or is it the nature of his mistakes? A combination of all plus the feeling plus premier league proven tag maybe? It’s the running balls out of play under minimal pressure. Looking like he doesn’t know how/who to press. Biggest factor is Elanga isn’t as good as people hoped. Not even close. And Barnes is better than people hoped. And Barnes was signed to fight for a first team place. But he wasn’t a marquee signing. At the time he was viewed as a bit of a luxury. Ppl wanted a RW more and we didn’t get it. We didn’t get it for another 2 years. And then we got Elanga. That’s underwhelming.

I think this is a reasonable take. It's a really interesting situation and I hope for the life of me he kicks on next season because I do think we are stuck with him. I’d love him to be the super sub we bring on against tired legs and to sign a marquee RW it’s a shame we went into last summer thinking we were only a RW GK and back up striker away from great things with Isaks nonsense and the signings we are further away than we’ve been in a while. Serviceable PL players cost 30-40m first team ones cost 50-60 marquee ones cost 70-80m we need marquee striker RW first team GK DM serviceable LB RB all assuming no one leaves if Tino or Tonali leave then add rb and CM to first team or even marquee

We probably have to accept a degree of player trading in the interim period tbh. And this is IF our owners aren't bullshitting.

A lot of people saw we needed an ASM replacement and only really had Gordon as an out & out LW option. We had Almiron and Murphy on the right. If we'd sold one of those over ASM, we'd have needed an RW.

And I mean why wouldn’t Barca do that? They could play anyone off the park on their day. That said, hoping he can take some confidence from scoring two goals there. Think they said the had only conceded 8 goals at home all season.

We played Willock/Joelinton there the season prior mostly + had Gordon as a marquee type signing Neither Almiron or Murphy were considered good enough. Anyway overall point stands. Even if I take your view. Barnes came into replace someone who spent most of the prior season on the bench. He’s never meant to have been an automatic starter. Elanga was the king overdue RW. Meant to be a starter and a marquee signing. And he’s a worse footballer than Barnes. Arguably not an improvement on Murphy.

Kid Icarus
Scored twice and was heavily involved in what would have genuinely been the best Newcastle team goal I've ever seen. But was still quite hit and miss. Still confident that he'll come good, we saw his uses pretty clearly last night.

I don't think it's tosh like, he ran the ball out of play and gave it away extremely cheaply a good few times. He's given himself a platform to build on with those goals but his overall performance was still below par IMO.

Pilko
As effective as he was on Wednesday, I wouldn't want him anywhere near the team on Sunday. Low block and no space to operate in is where his limitations are exposed horribly, case in point the away leg of the derby where to call him a competition winner would be an insult to anyone able to fill in an application form.
