No idea if this is true but we were linked heavily during the summer.

I’m not a fan of tippy tappy football but playing a 4-3-3 I find it hard to believe we can’t have at least one wide forward with technical ability who might not be the best tracking back.

We were crying out for someone with a bit of unpredictably in the final third this summer. To still be thinking Jacob Murphy is our best option after spending 200 million in the summer is criminal.

I'm assuming this is in reference to Akilouche?

We only spent 55 of that on wingers though

I’d have spent 80 if it meant we weren’t stuck with Murphy as first choice on the right. It was a priority position and we had the funds to make sure it was upgraded.

It's weird with Elanga because if as is being suggested he was taking free kicks and corners at Forest, that indicates he has a level of technical ability when kicking a football that he's just not showing with us.

I can't reconcile how he'd be good enough to be first choice set piece taker there, but here he looks like he's never played the game before.

In some respects that's a bit terrifying, but it also gives me hope that he's clearly not a total write off and there's some footballing talent in there. I'm just baffled as to where it's gone.

I never thought he lacked technical ability before he got here. Being raised in Man Utd academy would suggest he's decent at football.

I still think he's just struggling to cope with the move and it's making him tentative.

All I've been saying since he came is that he's clearly not as bad as he looks. Question is why and how to fix it.

Been watching him closely in the CL - I too have doubts about his physicality in the PL.

But he's a gifted footballer. A proper playmaker. Doesn't look a Howe player but he does work pretty hard - harder than Elanga imo

I was gutted that we didn’t go for him or someone similar. It’s these sort of transfers that can transform a side, but they’re inherent with risk and we clearly can’t or don’t want to take on that risk

Ironic because I've heard a lot of criticism that Elanga hasn't shown much physicality either. Not really noticed that personally, but seen a few of the NUFC podcasters complaining after Sunday.

Every transfer is risky as we’ve seen with Elanga in and Isak flopping at Liverpool.

I like what I’ve seen from him but doesn’t seem an Eddie player. In a pretty talented Monaco team he’s the playmaker. So he gets a lot of touches. Often comes towards the ball and looks to find a runner or forward pass which I think would actually work well.

I think Howe wants a Minteh type winger.  Or a halfway house like Kudus who is pretty dynamic physically but a technician too.

Reminds me a bit of Bruno actually. A pure baller. Great attitude but kinda slow for the position. Maybe a bit of the Kulu too.

His ambles off the ball. The press is half hearted.  That should improve over time.  Barnes was a bit like that but he presses with good intensity now.

He struggles to control footballs so he can’t get his physicality off on the ball. That is harder to improve.

Very hard to maintain possession with players who can't control the ball or have a poor first touch. He made sense in a Forest team designed to sit deep then attack open space on the counter.

I really liked the idea of him in the summer, but I think with Woltemade now, we couldn't carry another slow / ball to feet player up top, our transition threat has reduced enough as it is

Unless we played a totally different way of course

I can't even remember the last time we actually played on the front foot and tried to maintain possession.

Our tactic this season is precisely sitting deep and then trying to counter. Exactly what forest also did last season.
