Aiston
5 minutes ago, Myleftboot said: What was the craic there? Similar to what a few of us have said on here. Players easily motivated for the likes of Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool but cannot get motivated for the likes of Brentford, West Ham, Palace etc.
alexf
Don't think the players weren't motivated today I just think once again we had the chances to win the game and defended poorly when we conceded. It was clear in the first half when we showed glimpses that we were the better team but we just seem to have a soft underbelly. 2nd half never got going, most the players began to tire, but that poor third goal seemed to really knock the stuffing out of us to come from behind a third time. Ronaldo
‘The players aren’t up for it against the smaller teams’ is a lazy comment from lazy pundits who have no ability or inclination to address tactics beyond ‘he was standing off him’. We’re just a better side off the ball than on it and obviously a much better side at home. These issues away from SJP have been going on for 18 months. I genuinely thought Shearer and Given were embarrassing, tbh.

Tsunami
Got to say that if you’re not at it 100% all game you are likely to get punished, at the very least you have to match or better the opposition levels. It’s unquestionable that we compete more, at home, against the “better” sides. Our intensity has really fallen off, especially away from home, from 2 seasons ago. I don’t think Bruno is an effective captain, I don’t see his influence on other players when we really need to step up. We’ve got to sort it out, we’re muddling along at the moment. There is a noticeable upturn in intensity against better teams than the rest of the league. Compare our pressing against Liverpool, Arsenal and Man City, to Brentford and any other similar side (West Ham at home for example) and it's a night and day difference. The fact we're terrible in possession is also true. There are an array of issues on the field this season, unfortunately, it's not just one thing. It means either we have spent a lot of money on players who are technically limited, or we aren't setting up in a way where there are enough options available. Karjala
Could have been 3-0 up at half time, instead it was 2-2. Awful second half, terrible defending. How has our defending gotten so bad compared to 2 seasons ago, is Botman the sole reason?

Sempiternal
The problem with this team and well any team that’s playing badly (imo) is the midfield. I just don’t think ours works at all. It’s very cliche but win the midfield battle win the game, is true I think. We seem to get countered so easily it’s frightening. Just so much space in our midfield. I don’t think the tonali signing was a good one. He may be a good player which I think he has only shown in patches here, but we needed an actual 6. We could go 4-2-3-1 but I’m not sure Eddie will. I think it's a combination of Schar ageing, Burn ageing, loss of Trippier's leadership, and the fact that teams have well and truly figured out how to exploit the huge gaps in our system. I hate to say it but I'm not convinced just throwing Botman in there fixes it, even at his best.

Ronaldo
We know the issue with our CBs is players running at them - and that includes Sven to an extent. Weirdly it basically was never allowed to happen in 22-23. Seems to happen all the time now and it’s one of the issues with not having someone holding and being so poor at killing the game / retaining the ball in safe areas of the field. St1pe
Just seen this again after the other day. People quoting it and saying he’s miles better than Howe. He can’t even give a congratulations speech without being snide about something “totally fair”. Shut up man.

Can see why the players give their all for him. The way he addressed Ben Mee, who is out of the team, in front of everyone was particularly impressive. Good manager.
