Ipswich Town 0-4 Newcastle United - 21/12/24

Recommended Posts

That's the best I've seen us play all season. I guess it was only Ipswich, but many players are now raising their game just in time for a run of key games.

Few things from watching MotD: Isak's terrible one on one miss led to his finish for the second goal. On the miss, he tried to give the keeper the eyes, shape to shoot to the far post and then dink it over where the keeper was. Keeper didnt' fall for it. On the second goal, the keeper guessed Isak would do the same again and duly sat down on the spot

That's the best I've seen Gordon all season. He was moving the ball much faster than at any point this season.

Schar looked cooked a few weeks ago, including his general play with the ball. He was absolutely on it yesterday. The ball to Murphy for the first goal needs far more visability that it has recieved. It was incredible.

On a day where yet another team has shot themselves in the foot for playing sill possession football to beat the opponent press, we have battered them by playing simple long balls from the back into space.

Tonali wins the ball so frequently in the middle third and then springs counter-attacks. That's a weapon in itself.

Finally, Dubravka did what was expected well. Not much to do. But there was a good rush out save in the first half. And his use of the ball with his feet is on another level to Pope. Naturally, I still worry that he'll fold when we eventually face a team that puts us under pressure with crosses and through-balls, but he is doing much better than I'd expected so far.

Beautiful raking pass. It's mad that teams still don't press him.

You can visibly see him looking about for an easy pass and trying to resist the urge to always ping one when nobody closes him down.

Good to see the players be right up for it against a lower positioned team.

Been a big criticism that we only turn up for the "big" teams, but all the players seemed up for it from the kick off.

Hopefully we can bring the same intensity going forward, as beating the teams below you can be the difference between a great and average season.

irritating that the MOTD commentator mentioned media reports about Tonali moving back to Italy in January

An absolute disgrace. Fucking desperate to tear us apart these cunts.

Was desperate for the cameras to show these dorks’ faces again after the goal was allowed.

Worth mentioning, I think, he referee was excellent.

It would’ve been easy for him earlier on to give them a couple false fouls.  The crowd was screaming and he just waved away. I he thought he had a really good day.

One thing I noticed with Dubs in goal, players at the back were a lot more willing to pass back to him when under pressure. Didn’t even think twice and played the ball back which helped open up the pitch, bypass a press and retain possession.

Wasn’t tested for saves / crosses, but that side of the game you can see a clear difference to Pope and how we play at the back as a result.

yeah, he often came out of his box to make a 3 with Schar and Burn in possession too.

He's obviously not a good keeper at this level but it gives you a glimpse of how much better off we'd be with a keeper that can receive and pass the ball.
