Newcastle United 3-0 Aston Villa - 26/12/24

Recommended Posts

He tries to get him 3 times. Left foot, right foot across the back and then flicks the same right footed trying to catch Schar on the head with the follow through.

Of course all 3 were just unfortunate and accidental, there's simply no way he could have avoided implanting his studs into Schar 3 times.

To me if you've played any sort of footy, you know exactly what Duran is doing.

Something that annoyed me a little bit is that I think Bruno’s goal should have stood.

If the ball had gone in directly off his arm then yes disallow it, but the sizeable deflection off the defender on the post after Bruno’s touch actually turned the ball in. The deflection from Bruno’s arm was going wide and therefore the goal would have been deemed an OG rather than a Bruno goal, meaning his touch was an “assist” rather than him being the goal scorer.

Spot on. It's been bugging me that nobody has mentioned it.

The check was over in seconds so I bet they didn’t even look at that part of it.

They really need to take their time with important decisions like that. We should have had 4. Emery would agree.

Careful joey, you didn't say you've played the game so know exactly what happened.

I mean. Playing the game at any level is almost irrelevant. If you’ve ever tried to avoid standing on something or someone or a pet, dog shit, anything really. Then it’s blatantly obvious that he did all he could to hit Schar. Not the other way around.

But yeah. I played a bit  and you know when someone goes in to do someone or not.

It would be obscenely draconian to scrub it off even without the deflection but as you say, the deflection makes it an outright error from the VAR. Fucking shite.

Bin off the farcical offside application and we've got five at Ipswich n'all.

It’s David Edgar’s terrible crack where he drops an unnecessary negative post and fucks off. I could understand and have done it myself in the Ashley/wank manager era but this team is set-up to compete and be successful.

However, predicting a defeat after 10 minutes and then blaming not predicting a sending off as a reason for his prediction not coming to fruition is mental and was rightly called out.

And him describing Gordon's goal as "crazy" suggesting it was fortunate

There was a lot "he's just a young lad" comments and inference in the commentary, so I was expecting him to be 18 or thereabouts. 21 whilst young, isn't really an age that warrants peddling such a narrative.

Even if it was an accident, his attitude across the game, and by the sounds of things,in general, doesn't do him any favours and suggests he's got it in him to do it.
