Manchester United vs. Newcastle United: 30/12/24 @ 20:00 (Live on Sky Sports)

Recommended Posts

Aye, my concern is that the narrative is ripe for “Resurgent UNITED beat potential usurpers”

Hard and fast from the off. We have the pace, the power and the ability to overwhelm them from the first minute.  Don’t let them settle and get to 0-0 with 30 mins on the clock.

I really hope we crush them like. Not just beat them but smash them to smithereens and destroy their every last hope of even finishing top 10 this year.

Heron, we need you of all people to stay calm.

Indeed. But more than happy to take a 1-0 courtesy of an OG off Maguire’s arse.

And the bookies now have Man Utd as favourites at 13/8, we’ve now widened to 8/5

That's not a reflection of what they think. It's a reflection of where moneys going. Man utds odds are often shorter than they should be due to this. And fwiw we are still favourites on betfair which is peer to peer style. On their sportsbook on which they set the odds we are both the same price.

All this bravado and piss taking is only gonna end one way like

I think most folk are saying the opposite though...right? That despite us being the supposed form team and therefore the likely winners we all know the reality of what that usually means...

It’s either going to be like the league cup game where we steam roll them first half, or like last seasons league game where we just keep shooting ourselves in the foot.

Can’t see anything in between and a draw.

An early goal for us would huge. Can see them with a low block to protect their midfield and attempt to release their wide players.

We need to be disciplined but also find a way to get at Erikson and Casemiro without leaving gaps.

On paper we win this, play to our strengths without falling to a sucker punch.

We're obviously playing them at a very good time with form/mood around clubs, them missing two of their midfield.

We're still away at Old Trafford, they have plenty of experienced players and I never feel like our press works that well against 3 at the back. Particularly with Onana's distribution, last year he was constantly being the extra man and passed through the lines with ease. Froggy's also said that Man U have been playing a bit better than results would suggest at times & they just haven't been taking chances.

I'd still make us overall favourites though and if we really turn up with the bit between our teeth we've got a good chance.

My hope is we will be able to win the game in midfield.  Assuming we play Tonali, Bruno and Joelinton I can't see them being able to.cope with us, particularly with Fernandes and Ugarte out

The two key battles will be our midfield against theirs (our pace v the serious lack of theirs in there) then their attack against our defence (their serious pace v lack of ours there).

The other key will be to get the crowd silent early on and groaning. The more their crowd gets involved, regardless of Man Utd form over the years, they can shift momentum quick against run of play as we’ve seen many times.

Not against Wolves mind. Can't have any complaints losing that game.
