Newcastle United 1-4 Bournemouth (18/01/25)

Recommended Posts

Well done Bournemouth absolutely fantastic performance by them and well deserved win

Absolutely disguisting performance from us, looked like we didnt give a shite from the first whistle.

Full backs got mauled, both were terrible.

Brazilians were poor, Joelinton would rather have a fight than play football.

Passing was sloppy and lazy by everyone.

Gordon and Murphy were wasteful, Isak anonymous

Subs did nothing, Schar was pretty awful when he came on.

Nobody did better than a 4/10

To be a really top manager you need to know when to rotate, to be able to change the game with tactics and subs, today we looked tired and thats on Howe imo, we cant keep playing the same 11 week in week out, that was the reason we had so many injuries in previous seasons.

We deserved fuck all today. Second best all over the pitch.

One of the richest teams in the world and we can't buy anybody because of stupid rules that other rich teams seem to find loopholes everywhere.

These ffp rules need looked at.

And now is 4. Embarrassing and frustrating. Well done to Bournemouth though, they've been exceptional and hungrier from the start.

On to next week, and one thing is for sure, getting a Champions league place is going to very difficult. So many teams in the mix and I keep waiting on Forest to drop away but is still not happening.

Nervy stuff, but that's football for you.

Respectfully, what has this got to do with today?

Our first XI is considerably better than theirs. As was our bench.

They were better coached and had more intensity.

Not a disaster but it's definitely a wasted opportunity, and opens the door for others to apply use a similar blueprint at SJP.

Can we never let Isak take a free kick again btw? Felt like putting his goalscoring run above the game outcome.

Would have Tonali, Trippier, Schar and Gordon all take it before him.

Made no sense when he stepped up. Don't think he's even came close with one before.

Fair play to Bournemouth.

In my opinion the team that plays with the best energy and intensity in the league.

Every single game they are at the opposition.

Well done to them.

They are very good, but I think it fucks your players in the long run and they will end up going through a sticky patch. No team can press that hard game after game.

They’re not mutually exclusive, though.

Their gameplan was perfect. How we set up and how we continued to try and combat it was confusing to say the least. It just made them better and played into their hands with attempting to beat their press all the while.

I do think Howe was out thought on the day. Plus certain players were miles off individually on top of that. Unforced errors under minimal or no pressure.

Agree, and that's perfectly reasonable tbf. We came up short today, second to every ball - I suspect a lot of that came down to fatigue. Just didn't look on it. Bad day but not indicative of our whole season and doesn't undo how brilliant a run we'd been on

We continually refuse to sell squad players let's hope that changes this window.

Also Bournemouth have done a terrific job of showing us not every player has to cost 40m + to contribute and they don't need premier league experience.

Aye Bournemouth have signed some quality and it’s the type of player we should he going for.

I wouldn’t say we continually turn down bids though, Trippier last January the only one I remember?

Lost to the better team, did t look at it and couldn't win any second balls. They were good, we were not. Time to forget about it and move on to Southampton.

Could do with some players in this window mind.

Is it necessary to use words like embarrassing to describe a 9 game winning run being ended by a team that won at Stamford Bridge 3 days ago and are now 1 point behind us? We threw attacking players on to try and get an equaliser so the score looks worse than it might have done - big deal.

Using the word "embarrassing" to describe a performance in which our players tried but ultimately failed, falling short to a brilliant opposition performance, is frankly, embarrassing.

It’s embarrassing because we’re a better team than losing 4-1 at home to a good Bournemouth side. We made terrible mistakes that cost us any sort of momentum in the game.

To not be embarrassed is ridiculous. [emoji38]

Miggy in the summer. Hung on too long to a bunch of players like Wilson etc.

Looking at the lack of options on the bench and how sloppy/tired we looked, im afraid this marked the end of us competing for CL.

Unless we get someone in.

You serious? Writing our season off based on one game.

"Embarrassing" is way too strong, they are a good team. However, we were VERY poor today for large parts I thought. It looked like we weren't prepared for what they brought at all.

Howe always seems to struggle against these. Maybe the soft spot he has for them translates somehow, we always seem to turn weak as piss against them.

That was a poor performance, but all credit to Bournemouth, they were excellent in every department.

Unpopular suggestion I'm sure, but we need to try and sell Bruno and reinvest starting with an athletic midfielder to compliment Tonali.  Other than the odd flash of excellence, Bruno is too slow and has been found out.  We really need more pace and athleticism in central defence and central midfeld.

Would have been interesting had the ref shown yellows earlier. But still think we were going to lose that. Hopefully Arsenal beat Villa later. Forest couldn't have ask for an easier game tomorrow.

We certainly made them look like the fastest football team ever assembled. The way they just breezed past our players time and time again…alarming.

hopefully it’s just a case of us being knackered and them, somehow being fresh as a daisy despite all their injuries and run of games.

I do find the fatigue argument hard to buy. Considering they are going through a similar injury crisis to us last season.

They’ve played the same group of players for quite a while now, as well. Plus they also have a high energy style like us. Although we didn’t see that from ourselves today
