If we had 60m available for Pedro and Ekitike then pay that for Sesko instead

Still not sure what to make of Sesko. The definition of a player that makes the difficult things look easy, but the easy things look difficult.

We've made it abundantly clear that PSR has us over a barrel and we have to be incredibly careful and certain about how we spend our money. If Howe and everyone else involved in recruitment think Wissa represents value at £40m then I back them totally. There's no one else out there who scored 19 PL goals last season who's available at that price, unless we fancy another go with Chris Wood.

I don’t want Wissa I want a world class forward from the continent who’s 21 and proven at the top level and for sale and we can agree a price and he’s not expensive and we can incorporate his wages into our structure and he wants to play for Newcastle and he’ll fit into our squad and he has an XG that’ll make me spunk my y-fronts and he’s not going to AFCON and he isn’t wanted by Chelsea or Liverpool and he isn’t a South American of African with a bad diet who’ll basically be a lump of lard when he’s 30

Thats not too much to ask is it ?

Seems a broad brush view that we're leading the queue for this one across most journalistic outlets - really need to get it secured and move on. If we get into next week and Wissa crumbles like the other moves I'll start to feel like we won't have time to get the 3 in minimum we need.

Whatever it is, just pay it in case he goes to Spurs. We need to speed things up, need midfield cover. No Longy, Miley still young and Willock is too unreliable. What's our plan if one of Joe, Bruno or Tonali go down? Five man defense? :undecided:

At this rate, it would be Matt Targett in midfield like that mad game at Old Trafford.

Don't really see the logic in paying 20m more, for a player who scored fewer goals in a weaker league. Never played a minute of PL football. Not the kind of risk we can afford to take.

The fact we haven't offered any where close to £40mil tells me we don't but it'll get to a point where we are going to have to over pay to get players in.

I would like Wissa, i think he could replace Wilson’s goals pretty well for a few seasons. I doubt they'll be stubborn about 40+5 and I’m sure our maximum will be a bit lower. I suppose I don’t really get why this bidding process takes so long, and given we seem to go after one player at a time, we can’t afford another saga where we end up with nothing. Transfers are mysterious to me.

But but with Howe’s coaching….

isn’t that the done thing to say that when linked to any player that could be better

I might be talking out of my ass here, but i get the impression the reason they were willing to pay that for those guys is because they planned to play them alongside Isak. If you can't do that then they're not willing to pay 60+ for someone to be a back up.

But are okay with paying 30-40m for someone to sit on the bench sometimes.

I wouldn’t say so. You look at the market and what similar, worse, better players have gone for and their circumstances (age, current, contract length, league they’ve played in etc) and then you look at our financial position and the fact we’ve not spent any money in three transfer windows and had to sell Minteh and Anderson and bring in a keeper who will never see the light of day with us and it’s pretty easy to take a stance on the finances

Information asymmetry though; we don’t really know what our books look like.

Someone mentioned Fabio Vieira and I’d do it just for the depth. Feel really uneasy going into the season with essentially the same squad minus Longstaff and plus Elanga with a grueling CL group stage to play.

I’d not be happy going over £25m + £5m add ons personally and would prefer to target a younger player with potential who isn’t as developed as Wissa and either pay less or go for a younger player who’s already shown huge potential like Dibling

And Diblings goals are????

As much as I enjoy watching fans set precise numbers around player values, transfer fees traditionally were about what the player offered against the cost.  A player’s value is what a club is prepared to pay, not a number you’ve arbitrarily decided upon.

Wissa is a proven PL quality forward who knows where the net is and grafts his bollocks off - if those sort of players don’t excite you, you’re watching the wrong sport.  This is Newcastle United FFS - if there’s anything that we should know about or get excited about, it’s signing goal scorers.
