Market value, taking into account contract length, has to influence what a ‘reasonable’ offer is. Fair market value is probably a better phrase, but it still has a deal of subjectivity in it also. Nah, it's a seller's market in this case and can be whatever Brentford want it to be.
Infinitely Content
8 minutes ago, Kid Icarus said: What a bellend. Hope we do the same to Isak. A reasonable offer is what the selling club decides, it's that simple. And yet I think many of us have a feeling that we may be on the verge of doing precisely the opposite and actually lowering the price as we move towards the deadline. Logically it goes up, as with Wissa and Brentford to compensate for time constraints and desperation. That said I do have some faith in the club to act sensibly, but certain noises from journalists this week suggest the contrary is possible, whether or not they're to be believed which is questionable at best. The College Dropout
Don't like the statement. It's more transparent than Isak's but he should know as a fanbase we wouldn't like it after what Isak has done. Train, get your head down and play for Brentford. If you want to leave put in a transfer request from there we know your intentions and you've put skin in the game financially too. My sympathies with Wissa are purely financial. He's likely not "retire forever" rich and a move to us would guarantee him that for himself and his family. Having a contract with Brentford that takes him to 31 - most likely on £30k or less, is his own doing.
Stottie
My first impression was that this was a mocked-up pisstake of Isak. Is it actually real? If so, the obvious conclusion is that he's copied Isak because there has been next to no actual condemnation of Isak in the biggest media. Yes, the odd person like Simon Jordan has called him out, but most of the folk people listen to, like Carragher, have not questioned why Liverpool are going after such a bad character of a player. So long as it is not Liverpool or another darling club on the receiving end, they don't care. In Wissa's case, the receiving end is plucky Brentford, who are a noble victim. We are a victim too with Isak, but that doesn't matter because the upside goes to Liverpool FC.

Given Brentford could not find a replacement I will fight for my place in the starting XI and give my 100% for as long as I'm contracted. Up the fucking bees." Irish Paul
Heartening to see so many on here don't want Wissa because of his behaviour. Liverpool fans, from what I've seen, seem to have no such issue with Isak. For all their self-aggrandizing bullshit, they'll cheer on any old mercenary in a Liverpool shirt, as they showed with the want-away, racist ear-biter. #Thismeansmoremyarse

It's not in the contract but it counts for something imo. It's an official agreement, although not legally binding. Footballers need better agents. Instead he hasnt, which means he condones it. It may even have been a Liverpool FC idea.
black_n_white
Also, what’s with the sky headline of Newcastle target Wissa demands move? They are gagging for the Isak to Liverpool transfer so much. Wouldn’t surprise me if this is another ploy by Liverpool to pressure us into signing his replacement. alexf
Don't want him. He and Isak should be forced to stay at their clubs and for the good of football try and nip this new Instagram statement shite in the bin before they all start doing it. Atleast Strand-Larsen hasn't been quite so disrespectful. I know he didn't play yesterday but I think he partly genuinely does have an injury as it was talked about going into the season and also his club probably don't want the take the risk incase he is sold and they miss out on his transfer fee if they already signed a replacement. EDIT: Sorry seen your edit As in you think it would be too vague to be enforceable? I am also a solicitor but haven’t done contract stuff for ages; I wondered whether you could actually try and enforce it by reference to some form of independently made valuation according to age and performance. If it was worth anything it does beg the question why he hasn’t tried to enforce it.

Armchair Pundit
At 29 soon, with only a year left on his contract, I would really begrudge us paying over the odds for Wissa. Don't get me wrong, he's fits the bill of what style player we need, just think we'll get dicked on the price for him, which then adds to a potential issue further down the line. He's worth no more than £30m really, anything else is Brentford trying it on. If we go elsewhere and they're left with a disgruntled player who leaves on a free at the end of the season, that's their problem. In terms of his antics for trying to push a move, they're way different to our own rat, not that the average fan or media will understand that.
