Didn't think this deal was still possible.

 

Delighted we've managed to essentially replace Isak's goals in the league with someone that scored similarly well last season.

 

I'm also really happy for Wissa who gets his dream move to Newcastle who he's insisted on joining from the outset over other options.

 

If we have to allow our players dreams to come true elsewhere, then let others come here to make their dreams come true also.

 

With all that said, my favourite part of the deal is going to be observing how all the people that have been slating this fine fellow that ONLY wanted Newcastle, will now have to come to terms with him joining the club and scoring goals, and awkwardly navigating it all ;D

Funnily enough, you can also frame this the opposite way. A PSR purchase with sell on value doesnt neccessarily mean high contributions in the 25/26 season. Wissa should help the club do well this season meaninng the possibilty of Europe, success on the pitch and continued financial momentum.

He's a striker who is leaving  mid-table team.

 

Delap was a relegation level striker.

We might make some of that money back by finishing higher up the table (or advancing further in other tourneys) thanks to playing Wissa over Osula/Gordon upfront. I have the feeling we could've gotten him for £50m earlier in the window, but I suppose we wanted to explore other options first.

Absolutely, your right but no guarantees exist with Wissa either it's the nature of the beast. But the reason why every club is trending young is to protect the downside. Imagine if Wissa sucks? We are stuck with a very expensive flop we can't shfit without taking a ffp hit. 

 

I think the best example of this is Ramus Hoijlund @Froggyplease correct me if I'm wrong but once he completes the obligation you guys actually come out with an accounting profit correct?

He is way older than Elanga, but also a safer bet in terms of quality this season. This season is really important. We went big on Livra and Hall last time we were in the UCL, and while they were brilliant signings, they didn't play that much in that season (especially Hall). It hurt us that year. Villa went even further than this when they blasted money on loan deals just to be able to compete on all fronts.

If you can get two seasons out of him, where hes at his best and then another where he can contribute then it might be worth it financially. 

 

With the type of player he is, youre going to have to get very lucky for him still to be contributing post 32 year old.

Why would he suck he is already proven in a mid table team.

All transfers come with risk, I'm not saying he will suck im saying he could. Im sure you understand the difference and if you re read my post and understand the context it may make more sense.

Being a good team and winning football games is the most important way to combat PSR though. If he's the difference in us getting to the Champions League once in his time here then he's basically paid for himself. 

 

Winning games = prize money = sponsorship money = international appeal and fan income. A successful team can keep or charge more for its players. That's how you combat PSR in the long term. Judging transfers on pure profit potential is Brighton behaviour, though even they sign the odd experienced player to fill a short term need

 

eg. Trippier, he's been a PSR cost every year since he's come with no prospect of flipping for a profit, doesn't mean he hasn't been a very valuable signing and absolutely worth it.
