We also know Wissa is desperate to come here, so it can be completed in time. I dont see why we'd go for Jackson now, it would ve a stupid thing to do IMO when we have Wissa their to sign. Isn’t £75m is more than what Bayern had agreed to pay?

One is a great deal and one is robbery and there’s so little between them Also - and this is really important - it shows that we at least have SOME ambition. The Ashley move would have been to buy some unknown for £17m in the hope he might turn out to be a diamond in the rough.

NE27
So one unruly striker out, replaced by another unruly striker. I'm really trying to spin it all as a positive but I'm found left wanting here. Overall our window has been ok and has helped bolster the squad, but the optics and way it's played out has been nothing but amateur from us. I'll still be there backing the lads who want to play for the club every week.

Optimistic Nut
Les Ferdinand was £6m at 28/29 at a time that was a monster fee. Probably similar to £50-60m in today's money.

Also looking at his style of play he can see he fits us like a glove. Yes lets debate the price, but you cant deny his stats over the past 3 seasons. He's not a bad player I actually really like him. I wouldn't ever pay much for him though because as I outlined i need assets to trade with, I need players who have high ceilings and can improve. Our way of managing psr was austerity and by Eddie's amazing work we somehow came out the other side without too much damage but that's not a trick which can be repeated. It’s hard to work out which one is worse business. I’m going with the Wissa one given how awful our negotiation position was on Isak LOL Wissa is worth more than 30-35m. 2 years left on his contract and one of the top scorers in EPL last season. Yes he will be 29 on Wednesday but I don't think it is unrealistic that he could give us 4-5 good years. Plenty of players play at a top level well into their mid-30s. And at the end of the day, needs must and I think we got a very good Wilson's replacement
GeordieDazzler
Brentford have sold 90% of last seasons goals and have a guy with a 11 in 88 record as their main man now. We were always going to have to overpay.

Hanshithispantz
Aye calling him a 1 season wonder is mad like, he's like if a more direct Harvey Barnes could also play up top. His record only looks average if you discount he's played primarily LW.

andycap
He scored just as many as isak last season and he didn't take penalties isak did. So to get him for under half the price of isak is a great deal.

So it could fuck our European financial situation? Also, if we buy for £55m and sell for £30m two years later, what is the book loss / profit from our own PSR regulations? Years taking the piss because we were ‘financial statement champions’ and now bitching over 15 million for a vital player in a CL season. It's nothing to do with being financial statements champions, it's because an overpay for Wissa now weakens our ability to compete for top players in future, whilst also increasing the likelihood that we have to sell a prize asset in future. Of course, in the short term, not getting a striker now could be disastrous for the season ahead. I have no issue with this deal if we are able to flog Wissa to Saudi for 2-3 years at a price that makes the net PSR hit palatable, but PIF do not seem to want to go down this route so this could be a highly expensive deal.
