See it with New York Yankees players all the time, they are great players and then they come in and just play horribly in New York. A few years later they're back in the Midwest somewhere crushing it again. Basically they just can't hack it in New York.

I could see Newcastle being a similar increase in pressure and scrutiny compared to Brentford.

Not the goldfish bowl again...

Wonder if he's finally got a big contract after years of being on comparatively low wages and thought 'Right, I'm sorted now, time to put my feet up'.  Going into the back end of his career and now pretty much set for life it'd be easy for the drive and motivation to drop a bit.

Spot on

Outside the cultivation of mass, I wonder if it's a cultural issue, we're not replete with Frenchies anymore and we're either speaking German, Portuguese or English on the training pitch most likely. Also whether he was a big London fan and can't get wet with the goldfish bowl of the toon a la Jenius. Also that knee injury and recovery might've been a bit worse than expected. Not been a smooth transition to life at Newcastle either way but something feels really off...

Or he's just a Greggs munching fat rat who is enjoying a payday...

Just the 18 minutes played over the last 4 CL games for this guy.

Cannot see how he stays past the Summer.

Well, can't see anyone paying a decent enough sum or covering the wages .

I genuinely think the attitude thing is Twitter nonsense. People seemed to be pelting him for leaving the pitch before the Murphy knee slide on Saturday, when he turned to leave approximately 2 seconds before Harvey Barnes, who unsurprisingly did not get any criticism.

Fitness I could see as being partly true. We're a highly athletic side, he had no pre-season and then missed three months, so he probably isn't where we want him to be. In virtually all the games I've watched him here, he's had Tindall yelling at him at some point from the sidelines for something to do with getting the press wrong - which could be either not physically there to press enough or not tactically understanding the press triggers well enough, or both.

I think Howe is just making a statement now by not giving him any minutes at all. Not really what you need when we're desperate for a striker and this guy is turning 30 when the season starts again

Can only hope for an insurance job now.

Will go down as the worst signing in our history. I'm pretty certain of this.

We've had grossly overpriced strikers

We've had unfit strikers

We've had washed up strikers

We've had strikers who can't score

But I don't think we've ever had a grossly overpriced, unfit, washed up striker who can't score.

Say what you want about Michael Owen (seriously, say what you want) but he was never 4th choice striker halfway through his first season and was actually a serviceable player for some of his time here

What was the game about 6/8 weeks ago when Wissa started and he came off without a single mark on his kit and without a fucking bead of sweat on him? Knew then he was cooked here. You can have a shit game but you'll never be forgiven for not trying
