Last year provides the best guide not when he was 16

He was 16 in 2020?  Cos that's when he played in Ligue 1 (apart from 2 games).  And I said 'A goal every 200 minutes at the top level.' so I'm only including his PL and Ligue 1 stats which date back to.... 2020.  Bellend.

im underwhelmed by this signing but you are making it sound like he’ll be missing half a season. He’ll miss 5 games max

No, assuming he leaves the day after the Sunderland game he will miss circa 7 games minimum dependant on league cup inclusion it could be 9. If we then give him 2 weeks rest for tournament return you can tag on 2 more.

so around 20% of the season. not to mention players always return poorly after tournaments

In FIFA rules your age is the age of your birthday during that calendar season, so yues from July 1 with a birthday in September they call it as his 29th season

Never heard anyone ever frame it like that either way and seems a really weird thing to say.

"29th season under fifa rules" makes it sound like he's about to play his 29th season of professional football

Seems a weird thing to get too hung up on.  Him turning 29 in September.  Unless you also prescribe to Zero's way of thinking about African and South American players

you don’t think generalisation of a particular demographic could be somewhat problematic?

When we have to evaluate something based on limited information, you can only rely on trends and identify risks behind

when you have to make decision and you have the resources, you should try your best to grasp more information to clear the above risk

in Wissa case, certainly the club can check about Wissas metabolic age during medical and also check about his lifestyle and diet. Just like some suggest we should have check Tonali’s background and discover his gambling habit. That’s something the club should do

So go back to your question. I don’t agree to make decision just based on generalisation, but I agree to identify potential risk because that’s simply maths. People from same region tends to have similar culture and lifestyle, grow up in similar environment. Another example I can give you is in China, particular province, due to diet (mainly marinated salty fish) the local residents tends to have the highest Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma rate across the region. I won’t say people from that province must bear this disease, however it’s definitely good for all parties that those people should have regular body check re their nasal conditions. Do you get it now?

I just cant see how signing a player we wont have over the busiest period of the season makes sense unless it is already cover for year 2 of him being here

Did we ever even bid for Delap, Mbuemo or Cunha?  Was always just that we were supposedly interested and fans were rightly excited at the prospect, no?

I really don’t know. I don’t think we made a bid for Delap. We knew his price, which was his £30m release clause. We inquired with his camp and he told us he’s going to Chelsea. Mbuemo, Luke suggested we were to bid for him and Guehi but idk if it materialised. I think we knew pretty soon we could meet the fee but were priced out on wages. Cunha, I really don’t know. Probably just one of those “makes sense so Newcastle will bid” but don’t know if we actually ever did.

haha no im not on Zero's thinking. Especially as he was born and raised in France so it cant be situational effects like diet and nutrition in the early years he wanted to take into account lol

What’s the difference between “trying to agree a deal” and “incremental bids”. Oh and there’s that oh so ebullient, ever-present confidence again, which has seen us miss out on Delap, Joao Pedro, Ekitike, Mbuemo, Cunha and perhaps Trafford and who knows who else.

Guess he’s been reading my posts about just calling a club and discussing a price.  Thanks Craig.

There's a chance they are trying to get this done now, in order to get him to Asia with the lads. If we have a club doctor over there, he could even do a medical. They set off in the morning FWIW.

Going to have to be some jump up in our offer to get this done. Would think Brentford likely want closer to £40m based on Toney / Mbeumo fees. We’re £15m off that already :D

Pay it for goodness sake we can't go into a CL season with 1 striker that has low stamina

Supposed to be offering £30m plus add ons. If it’s £35m then that’s kind of close to £40m.

He misses 6 league games if they get all the way to the final. And why would he get two weeks rest? I don’t recall Salah getting 2 weeks rest and Ba & Cisse certainly didn’t get 2 weeks rest.
