Downie said we're still negotiating over the details of the sell on yesterday iirc. I suspect it gets done.

The real question (which has been the case all along ) is if Man U eventually stump up the cash to make that same offer too.

Most reports have said he is undecided on where he wants to go so I don't think it's as cut and dry as they definitely will get him.

Once we come to an agreement with Leipzig everything will be a whole lot clearer on this whole thing.

I can't understand why he wants Man Utd anyway, old tired run down club that used to be good but now are struggling with huge debt.

They are the Sheff Wed of the EPL.

Struggling with huge debt you say.

How ironic.

If we've put in a firm bid, and Man U are definitely interested, I'm not sure why they are hesitating to bid as well. It's being said that they don't have to sell to buy, but they are acting as if that is indeed their situation.

Romano seems to be saying that they are waiting for Sesko to indicate that he'd be interested in the move, but that doesn't make sense either. If, at this advanced stage, the player hasn't indicated that he'd be interested in joining them, then when would he make his views known? There's a rumour now that they're seeking to offload Hojlund, and it looks like that's what they need to do before putting in a bid.

I have doubts as to whether Sesko is worth the huge fee, but right now I'd like the move to happen, if only because it takes the heat out of the Isak situation. I suspect the odds are that we'll miss out again.

There is a potential but highly unlikely scenario whereby we buy Hojlund for roughly £35m and enable Man U to get Sesko. Personally, I'd be okay with that, because I think Hojlund is a talented young player who just needs the right environment. Please disagree politely - it's only an opinion.

Man United are still one of the biggest teams in the world up there with Madrid and Barca.

For all they have been on the decline since Ferguson left they've still won a number of trophies. We could only dream of being that successful during that period of time.

Players will always back themselves thinking they can be the one to turn it around.

Saying that if players think logically and look at Howes track record of improving players we've got to be a very attractive option.

I'd imagine the Šeško to Man U is more agent driven knowing they're more likely to get an attractive package from the Mancs if history is to go by.

This stinks, all of it.

From the player taking a week to decide, to the journalists spouting micro updates that contradict themselves/others.

A tedious shitfest.

If we sign him we’ll be back here in 2 years when he wants his next move.

That would be fine with me if he’d performed for two years, we were prepared for it, and we were selling him for twice what we paid.

The thing is, our team inside the bid, will know what the player/agent are actually saying and will have a much better vibe for what's really going on, everyone on the outside is just going on supposition/guesswork.

The Isak thing isn’t fine with anyone though.

I appreciate ‘prepared for it’ is key there though.

Pfffftt, a billion in debt, hemorrhaging money, dwindling sponsorships, no European football and Rat boy is about to add another 2 billion with a pipe dream of a new stadium.

The sensible thing for them and both clubs perhaps is to wait for our bid to be accepted then come in with the same bid and let the player decide with both clubs sticking to our guns and not allows bidding war as this is clearly what leipzig wants.

I’m genuinely fine with selling him for £150M+ and would’ve been if he’d been a lot more respectful about wanting to leave.

It’s the only way we’re going to properly kick-on while we build the rest of the club up to be a proper commercial juggernaut.

Still thinks we are the best option for his career, even objectively speaking

But yeah, some peoples memory (or history knowledge) is lacking a bit if you dont see the pull that man u still has, despite these past terrible years. Its a big club, and it will take many more years of mismanagement for that label to disappear

Agree in principle. Would have preferred to flip e.g. Gordon though, but there’s a reason it will be world class Isak and not someone more easily replaceable that will have to fund stage two of the project.

The way I see it is:

- Newcastle have basically agreed to play the full price

- Man United wont be able to match it.  Newcastle know this.

- they’ve made their bid public (through NE news reporters) to put pressure on the deal.  Romano has not got involved as he plays for the player agents.

- Šeško initial decision is probably going to be Man United

- Newcastle hope that Man United can’t agree a deal as Leipzig can play hard ball with them as they say they have a deal on the table and say match it or walk away

So we’re playing a slightly different tactic than the Mbeumo transfer when they basically let the player decide the initial preference then walked away and Brentford and Man united eventually had to find an agreement.

So it will come done to player power.  Given Šeško, even to this point, has apparently not made his decision, Leipzig can maybe argue even though its not  first choice its still a very good choice and your only one as Man United can’t afford transfer.

We’re kind of doing the transfer old school where the bidding war would come first.  Then the club would allow the player to talk after the war was over.

Pretty much what happened with Owen to us, to a lesser scale.

Don't discount Christopher Viviell in all of this - he is the only reason Man U are in the running and will be using his influence to sway them to deal with Man U.

We’ve got senior people over there in Leipzig directly dealing with RBL and the Šeško camp. If he goes to Man Utd, so be it, but the club have internally ramped up over the effort to the max on the deal.

Isak stays if this falls through as the club doesn’t have the bandwidth to do the deals it needs to, if every major transfer is going to take up so much of the recruitment team’s time. Modern day transfers are our version of War & Peace.
