It’s not some kind of conspiracy. Chelsea had been linked with Pedro before we went for him. Likewise Liverpool and Ekitike. Man Utd have been looking at Šeško for years. We didn’t get beyond a general interest in Mbeumo and Cunha and Trafford had a clause. Delap had the choice of about 5 clubs. We’ve simply gone after players that they want too and our bids have forced the issue. I suspect it might be the same with Guehi to Liverpool.

I imagine he is open to both with what seems like a preference for Manure. That's a preference, so he's likely happy to tell both teams he'll play with them to drive better negotiations for contract and sale (agents payday).

Just before Arsenal sealed the Gyokeres deal there was noise about Man Utd coming in late.

 

Just before Liverpool sealed the Ekitike deal there was noise about Man Utd coming in late.

 

When Liverpool bid for Isak they were inserted into that conversation as though they had any kind of chance of getting him.

 

Now here we are again ... we're putting in bids to match what Leipzig want and trying to get the structure right, and there's all this noise about how he prefers Man Utd and then they finally bid and it's less than what we did!
