Our CL campaign is not looking very optimistic either. Shambles really but the Swedish judas is the real villain.

I just want to get through the league [emoji38] it’s definitely taken the excitement out of the CL draw tomorrow

We’re going to have to overpay for someone. Our own fault, but not having a striker will cost us tens of millions anyway in prize money and likely CL progression. Not to mention a lot of outgoings next summer. We’ve already thrown away 5 points by not having one.

I agree, he certainly is the main antagonist and a virus but ironically he’s helped the club out in one way as he’s completely taken the focus off the mismanagement of this transfer window. Sure, he’s caused a lot of damage that maybe couldnt have been mitigated but the fact we didn’t get the second striker in is criminal. The club aren’t really getting it from any angles though, wonder if that’ll change after the window closes or whether people will continue to come together because of the virus

I said early June we needed to overpay to get the ball rolling and to avoid what we're seeing now. Was all very inevitable. Instead we fucked around on value and terms, meaning we become more desperate at each failed deal.

Master class in not how to do business. We've embarrassed ourselves massively.

Why do people keep saying it's our fault? Who could have foreseen so many targets go to other teams and at the same time Isak going on strike? We haven't gotten to this position for any other reason than a series of complete blind-siding events.

If Isak was still a key member and we were just bidding on strikers to replace Wilson, we wouldn’t be having this issue and it wouldn’t look like a shambles.

Because bad luck isn’t acceptable as a reason to the human psyche. Hence why anti vax grifters is a lucrative game.

But that’s why you think about contingencies and worst case scenarios, especially when your player intimates to you that he may want to leave. Howe has said that they had conversations about it, we don’t know the detail of those but we can be confident that it should have set us up in a position where we knew we absolutely had to replace Wilson before July

Whilst Isak has had a gargantuan role to play, the news of him wanting to ‘explore a move away’ (ostensibly the beginning of his strike) was on the 24th July. We’ve had the whole of June and most of July without it and still failed to sign a replacement for a player in Wilson whose needed replacing for years.

If the Isak shit wasn’t happening I’d still be disappointed in us not signing a replacement for Wilson. It’d take our business this window which I’m happy with away from the striker lark from an 8.5/10 to a 5/10 at best.

Simply based on Wilson being a shell of his former self all last season and knowing he wasn't going to sign on to another year by the time his contract expired end of June.

2 months later we find ourselves in a market where there is no time left and who we want is not surplus to requirements.

Missing out on preferred choices when you cant offer the pull the wage or the fee is normal.

None of this should come as a surprise to the club its one of the hardest positions on the pitch to get right.

Doesn't mean they cant have a portion of the blame for it getting to this point.

Because we went for targets clubs with more money than us also wanted. It was entirely foreseeable. After our first few windows and a couple of DoFs, I’m quite frankly amazed at how obvious our targets have been and the lack of scouting that seems to have taken place. Obvious target after obvious target.

Haha

Tell those calculator shaggers that a player is worth whatever the selling club and buying agree he's worth.

Stats don't lie, but they seldom tell the whole story

The vacuum at the top has caused this mess and I can aim no blame at the scouts or management - the glacial manner in which PIF move on decisions has been detrimental and hopefully many lessons have been learned in this window.

We've had bids in for Delap, Pedro, Ekitike, Sesko , Wissa and Steand Larson this summer as well as buying Thiaw, Ramsey, Elanga and Ramsdale. It only seems "glacial" when things don't come off

Had we walked away from Sesko and Man Utd then bought him at the price we'd bid people on here would have been screaming that we shouldn't have blwalked away.
