People talk about him like he's scored 1 or something, he has 9 goals + 3 assists against top level opposition despite some fairly obvious mitigating circumstances [emoji38] it's been a very decent start here. If he can replicate it in the second half of the season then we're looking at a very strong first campaign for us.

Yes, he should've shot earlier against City, but different strikers score different types of goals. And he's learning.

Some of the arguments around him are contradictory as well. He has no instinct, apparently, but then also only scores when it's put on a plate which requires some level of instinctive positioning. Which one is it?

Disagree. To me it was the moment/example that separates the haves and have nots regards to striker instincts. Defoe would’ve had that shot off in a heartbeat regardless of age.

Maybe muscle memory can be worked on but that born instinct can’t.

Defoe is ugly so it's irrelevent.

Don’t think people are talking about him like that. I’m not. The team has done well for him but the team is suffering overall. Hence the debate being a bit too subtle for some on here [emoji38]

You can have a 15+ forward and still get relegated for example. The question to me is IS what he lacks (speed, reaction time, strength, hold up play) affecting us and can it be improved. IMO we can improve his strength and hopefully that will lead to better hold up play which would improve us. I just worry that his first instinct is to create rather than score. Very similar to myself when I play and been a fault of mine for many years so can pick up the habits [emoji38]

What you want as a CF is someone that worries the CH’s constantly. I personally don’t think he does as they are so far dispossessing him quite easily. Still early days. I just feel those who are fully behind him are those who talk about deep lying no.9 and no.10 positions etc. That to me is no different to what those supposedly criticising him are saying.

I wouldn’t say the team is suffering because Woltemade is playing, that’s a particular spin on it.

The team hasn’t always played well but I’m not sure we can conclude he’s actively hurting the team. Even Isak wouldn’t be involved in a game for 70 minutes or whatever.

This echos my sentiment of him.

At his age, and of his type you'll never coach pace in him. So he will never be a buzzing pressing forward, or a threat like on the shoulder. My only hope is that with 10 months of Howe football, and Howe pre-season he will become a fitter and stronger player.

Just want the player to grow Joelinton's aggression. With his size, and skill he'll bully top level CBs. Currently he's a tall fanny that will run into midfield when it gets tough.

Over last 10 years defences have got better - latter year Bonnuci, Chiellini, Bargazli at Conte's unbeaten Juve is basically Brentford away. (extreme example).

Sounds so basic, but lad needs to toughen up, bulk out and wake up. But at 23, he's not young is he - he's old enough to be considered Germany's number 9.

Think that would be same for any striker we had this season. They’re always isolated, midfield not near, wingers with chalk on their boots, so the CBs can be aggressive and almost gamble in pairs because there’s no threat behind.

He needs to use his size better, something Isak eventually did culminating in his peak last season when he was bullying VVD/Salbia. It wasn’t strength, it was positioning the body in the right places and using intelligence to roll them. Wolte hasn’t need to do that yet in his career, but has the IQ to do it you feel.

Not helping himself, but he has nothing to work with.

Both him and Joelinton had EASY headers to score. Hopeless!

I wish he’d attack the ball with some intent and belief. He did earlier in the season and got the goals he deserved.

His hold up and link up play was a bit better and he finally got a foul. Nice of the ref to notice.

If ever there was a game to play him and Wissa late on. That was it. But Howe just sat on the 0-0 like a load of other away games this season.

Would not call it easy. If hes going to score on one half chance then hes going to create miracles.

It's mainly his fault. Extremely weak, poor positioning and struggles to head the ball.

How many times this season has a great cross/pass been wasted because he's 5 yards deeper than he should be.

I love Nick but the Woltemade up top experiment is becoming the 2nd Anthony Gordon up top experiment, with fairly similar results unfortunately.

He's not a striker in a month of Sunday's and we have seen more than half a season now of so much lack of striker instinct.

Probably because he’s not a target man?
