His Germany goals I've seen looked to be piss easy tap in due to poor defending. Otherwise seen barely anything that demonstrates he can be a half decent striker. Or suitable for any other role for that matter.

I’d like to see him start on Sunday up front, I thought Gordon was excellent at Chelsea but would like to see him get a chance at redemption here.

I think at home we’ll have plenty of possession and I’d stick Gordon on the left and Murphy on the right.

He needs to be told to play between the width of 18 yard box and get in the box. He’s proven he can do it earlier in the season and think writing him off as a striker is damning of the manager and coaching staff if that’s what’s happening.

I don't think it's rocket science. We are at our best when we press from the front and try and win the ball back high up the pitch. We're not able to press effectively when Nick plays as a forward, so we've gone back to what we know. Our best options for that are Gordon and Osula. Partly out of choice and partly out of necessity, Nick has been deployed in another role with mixed results to say the least.

This whole season has been about getting by. The game plan went on strike last summer and his "replacement" got crocked badly and then has really struggled to move since he signed. I'm sure the idea was to use Woltemade in different ways and build him up to being the main man, but it became needs must. Realistically, Eddie and friends will have to decide how we're going to play next season. If it's as we are now, I don't think there's that much of a future for Woltemade here, if we're honest. Maybe there's a grand plan for a change of shape and approach, who knows. We've had no opportunity to train anything more or less since he signed, so we've reverted to default and probably looked better for it (certainly away from home, the home form remains a bit of a concern).

Now his confidence is through the floor and although he's done admirably well in the midfield type role at times it feels like he is just there to plug 60 minutes. We don't seem to have found the solution to playing against low blocks, to me that's the type of game where he would be great in a 8/10 position but two of the mackems midfielders can run all day and I fear he will be left chasing shadows. This game seems similar to Everton in that respect, who have intelligent footballers in midfield and defenders who like to defend.

Something I can’t understand is people sounds like Woltemade starting upfront is the cause of our failure in pressing and defence. I keep on reading this for a few months already

- while the real downturn of our defence record and league position began when Woltemade was benched at Dec and subsequently not allowed to play upfront again.

It is really unfortunate how we benched him for Wissa and killed his rhythm and confidence, and then Wissa turned out to be shit but Woltemade is ruined too.

It won’t be Gordon’s sort of game up top at all. Not that he’ll get much space on the left, either. I’d be tempted to start Woltemade. Maybe Barnes and Gordon either side of him. Can always interchange and shift formation a bit with those three and the likes of Joelinton and probably Willock starting, too.

Murphy and Elanga aren’t going to get any space to operate down the right and this game probably won’t suit them from the start.

We made it easy for them at their place because we tried holding back. I'd go full on with the pressers and scare the shit out of them.

I’m just not sure pressing a team to death who will probably look to go long and play for set pieces anyway is a great tactic.

Alderete actually looks like a neanderthal and their team is full of brutes. Not saying Woltemade is a physical target man or anything. But just don’t see Gordon getting joy there. The same as he didn’t against Everton and we changed it early. Although TBF, that was equally to do with Joelinton wide left and Woltemade midfield, I guess.

Gordons game / effort will be determined by whether Tuchel is in attendance or not

Said similar in the match thread. Pointless playing Gordon up front as they’ll just be sailing balls down the pitch.

We lack creativity and there’s a high chance we’ll have more possession so Wolt up front and Gordon and Barnes on the pitch is a must. Maybe Murph over one of them for crosses.

I really feel a big end to the season coming for Wolte. Would be great if we get to the point where we hyping him up like earlier this season, we really thought we had got an absolute gem.

I still think he’ll get back to that level he was with us.

Go get your redemption tomorrow son 👊🏼

Aye maybes but elements of truth are inherently correct with certain players imo, Gordon being one of them

It’s not. It’s weird stories people have made up and can’t let go of to somehow scapegoat a player and team for poor form.

Gordon has arguably been our best plus this calendar year and this shite still gets rolled out.

We might have to agree to disagree on this

Agreed. Plus pressing generally brings the whole team forward by 10 to 20 yards compared to sitting back. A lot of our crappy goals are because we back off and retreat too easily.

Anyway - Gordon and/or Osula should be starting this one.

As for Nick… he’s a centre forward and should only be played in that position. His performances against Union and Everton away at beginning of the season were the type we need to find more consistently.
