Newcastle United vs. Arsenal: 28/09/25 @ 16:30 (Sky Sports)

Recommended Posts

We've shown the blueprint to beat Arsenal over the last 4 or so games

4-5-1 low/mid block, double up on Saka with Joelinton, force everything through the middle/left where they are weaker, rinse them on the counter.

Though we've lost our most talented player and transition threat in Isak, and they've got Eze on the left now, so probably more challanging for us

Schar and Burn will play (both in the stands last night). Most likely with Tripps and Tino.
Bruno and Tonali nailed on.

Puzzler re Big Joe though. Does not look fully fit but maybe they think he is fine to play again given it is a Sunday game (two 90s in five days seems a luxurious rest at the moment).

Suspect we’ll see Murphy (if fit), Woltemade and I suspect Barnes; though would rather see Gordon start.

Schar is still out - he’ll come back for either USG or Forest as they said 10-12 days.

                         Pope

        Thiaw        Botman        Burn

Tino   Bruno    Tonali   Joelinton    Hall

                 Woltemade  Gordon

I thought Gordon looked very bright last night and hopeuflly him and Wolt can start to grow an understanding.

Found it odd we played Joelinton for the full 90 last night and kept Willock on the bench.

Surely Willock isn't starting against Arsenal instead of big Joe?

Or does it mean we are likely going back 5 again.

Can only imagine Willock was so unimpressive in the last few games Howe has more or less given up on him. Otherwise he should have had at least 45mins yesterday to get up to speed, given he always looks like he's coming off a long lay off. Which he often is tbf.

Really would like Elanga to start this for the direct pace behind Arsenal, and to finally see him play with Woltemade from the start.

Tino - Botman - Burn - Hall

Tonali - Bruno - Joe

Elanga - Woltemade - Gordon

Get our strongest left side going again and for first time what should be our strongest right side. Effectively our strongest XI on paper based on historic form / new signings.

As much as this is the team I want, think the 5 at the back people will once again be proven correct and we'll see this side...

Trippier - Thaiw - Botman - Burn - Tino

Bruno G - Tonali

Murphy - Woltemade - Gordon

Not a fan as we've been blunt going forward every time we've tried it this season.

I think Howe will go for this:

Pope

Tino Thiaw Botman Burn Hall

Murphy Tonali Bruno Joelinton

Woltemade

Same system as we saw at Leeds and Bournemouth with Murphy and Joelinton playing as inside forwards, not overly keen on it but got a feeling Howe will go with that to try and be solid.

For me I would replace Burn or Botman with Gordon in the above and go 4-3-3 and get at them like we have always done.

Really surprised at the odds for this, we are 5/2, draw also 5/2, Arsenal 23/20. Don't usually bet on the result of our games, but feel we are too big a price here.

We don't have any real offensive threat as things stand while Arsenal are typically stingy in defence. Odds are likely fair.

Hope they start Merino in midfield, boosts our chances significantly

Didn't make any sense to me either. Starting Willock against Arsenal seems like madness.
