I honestly thought Wissa would be very good for us but he's been frustrating to say the least. Each passing month our summer business looks horrific.

we won’t love this last summer years on. As of now it’s a complete waste of money. I hope the players prove us wrong but it’s really bad.

Fucker was some player in last year's semi-finals [emoji38] Goddamit.

yup. Was driving home from work today and thinking that surely he would look back and think he should have stayed. Gotten maybe 25% less but we’d be top 3. In the knockouts already in the CL. Beaten city today. And Villa would be scared of us in the cup game. Many of us here felt with Isak of last season and us building with him we could maybe make our title push.  Really hits home man.

I’m surprised we managed to make a fist of it last night. That City team is obscene. Supposedly battered by injuries and you’re able to field that array of forward talent and still have a keeper and CB that we tried and failed to buy. Not to mention their stock of PL2 and loan enhanced reserves.

They’re the poster child for state powered club doping with 15 years of juice and best in class infrastructure. We missed that cut off and are now banging our head on a hard ceiling until PIF give take a sledgehammer to it with infrastructure spend.

I’m really proud of Eddie and the team but recognise that we’re not constantly going to be able to knock out City, Arsenal and Liverpool. Last year’s run was a ridiculous murderer’s row of clubs we shouldn’t have beaten consecutively and achieved a miracle in these PSR times.

You just knew that Wissa miss was going to cost us. Nevermind, the tie isn't over, all we need in the second leg is an early goal, multiple injuries and suspensions for them, Jimmy Nail to be appointed referee and Pep to be incarcerated for crimes against football and replaced by Wilfired Nancy

That’s what a team with full EPL FFP support are capable of.  Shows the gap between the teams that have to comply with PL restrictions and those that don’t.

Their incisiveness was streets ahead of ours.  We dither in front of goal as if we can’t decide what to do. Nick needs to get his head down and wallop the ball every now and again.

Difficult to know what to say? They beat us in a canter, not sure, it didn't feel like it or it did?

At 0-1 we had a chance, slim, but now we have no chance so I've checked out of this cup ..........felt the season ended last night :blackeye:

So many players nearly good but put up against these cheating twats we are never going to be able to compete consistently due to restrictions on transfers.

Its a no win situation outside the big guns.

Is Bernardo Silva just a plodder now? I don't know what he offers anymore apart from being a little rat.

Tactical fouling and getting away with it because he's small and plucky is what he offers.

They are after Guehi. If they get him I presume he'd be in for the 2nd leg. Palace want £35m apparently. Shame we couldn't afford his wages.

Are the rules that bent you can sign players mid-tie? I thought it was registering them in time for the round.

Confirmed: No one would be eligible now, for either us or Club 115:

The additional element in the Carabao Cup is two-legged semifinals. For a player to be eligible for both legs, they must sign for the team taking part before the first leg.

It's not even about wages at this point. He has more attractive offers.

Don’t think anyone signed now is allowed to play in the second leg.

We always get a great chance in the first 10 minutes, especially at home… take it and the whole dynamics and atmosphere changes…

Problem is we’re not taking them and it’s not just Wissa who’s guilty… but christ, the 2 misses in the last couple of games were shocking… and it’s got fuck all to do with him coming back from injury…

still think he’ll come good, just hope it’s soon…

Thought we gave a great account of ourselves last night, we were desperately unlucky at times with the woodwork coming to their rescue on more than one occasion and the ball refusing to settle or bounce favourably for us in good positions, I thought we transitioned extremely well at times too. Having said that we had opportunities to go ahead and to level that should have been taken, Wissa's wild blast in the first half the standout miss and Wolts refusal to shoot first time in the second proving frustrating too.

I think 2-0 flattered them a little bit and a draw would have been a fair result. Mission Impossible to qualify for the final now, but it's not over until it's over, however slim the chances might be.

Credit to all the players last night, there was no lack of effort, I don't think Elanga even played as bad as some are making out. The gulf in class to their bench really sealed it for them, I don't think there's many of their "second string" that wouldn't walk into most PL first teams.

Time to look forward to the league and a rare away win against Wolves please.

A league season is an endurance event and the January transfer window (broadly in the middle of the season) provides all teams with an opportunity to refresh their squad, with the likelihood that any reinforcements or sales broadly equally impact all other teams in a similar way.

A cup competition, by definition, is designed to be high stakes. If you lose, you lose. Unlike the league, there are no opportunities to rebound. Once a team (and the players of that team) exits the competition, there should no longer be an opportunity to compete within that same  competition.

exactly this

Semenyo was already eliminated from the cup with Bournemouth, why should he get a second crack at it?

it's a bs rule change imo

the league is different, there's 38 games for everyone and generally no player that moves is going to play more than 38 league game

If the whole 11 players of the team played with the same heart as Joelinton and Hall I don't think we would have too much to worry about.

I am not saying that Joelinton is our best player, far from that but, he plays with such determination and intention...  Hall is just fuckin' class.

was a replay ever shown of the elbow on Ramsey that forced him off the pitch?

of course they scored then coming from the side he would've been covering

bet Pep wasn't asked about that

not allowing players back on for 30 seconds seems like a rule change they should look into

It was a straight arm on Ramsey, a red card possibly, and the player who did it went on to provide the assist for a player who was cup tied, while Ramsey was off the pitch getting attention. Fucking joke.
