Football pet hates

To make it clear I was specifically talking about minutes applauses during a game but also prior. It feels like every game these days, just a different minute etc for a different cause. Let them end now [emoji38]

Absolutely.

Half of the time people don't even know what/who they are clapping for, they just do it anyway.

Seeing posts on social media asking fans to clap in a certain minute due to a fan who has a serious illness or has passed away makes no sense to me, there are a lot of football fans who pass away every day - why aren't they acknowledged?

The one thing the mackems do right, is to do it once a year on the last game in December to commemorate all fans who have passed away that calendar year.

Don't they retire their seats too?

That would explain a lot.

Football clubs are built on tradition and loving your stadium is a big part of that, it must be a big wrench to leave to go to a s*** one.

Aye, but it doesn't effect the players  Not a chance.

Of West Ham's starting 11 today - 3 were new signings this summer and 5 only played at their old stadium for one season. How on Earth are any of them effected by the move exactly?

West Ham's s*** start is because they lost some good players and replaced them with absolute dross.

When a team improves after half time and commentators come out with "there must have been some harsh words at halftime" as if criticising players and shouting at them is the only way to possibly get a reaction as a manager. It's such a prehistoric, British outlook on things. Your team's playing shit? Shout "You're shit!" and watch them flourish.

Obsession with attendances. Especially us at the minute. Fucking hell - yes we re still getting 50 odd thousand, lets all pat ourselves on the back, but stop fucking going on about it every single day

Staggered run ups to penalties. Always shit, hate them.

They're fucking awful. Without any data to back this claim up, they're much more likely to miss.

Zaza in the World Cup was the most beautiful failure. A major victory for the old fashioned run up and blast.

Commentators and pundits who say that contact and falling over = free kick and a player is entitled to go down.

Cheats charter and totally wrong, contact should be sufficient to make you fall or stumble otherwise it becomes a non contact sport.

I would add impede to that. If clearly stops a player getting to the ball.

It also annoys me when they seem to think that a player going down but it not being a foul MUST mean that the player dived and should be booked, as there are only 2 possibilities.

 It is a contact sport, people occasionally fall over

Nowt better than Shearer's technique of placing the ball, turn around 90 degrees, walk to the edge of the box, turn around, sprint up to the ball and absolutely welly it into one of the corners
