It's not that the designs are all bad. We'd all quickly grow an attachment to a new arena/stadium after a season of champions league nights.
Miggys First Goal
Get this new fucker announced. We’re going to need a bigger trophy room.

Skjaere9
Absolutely idiotic question from a foreigner but I reckon folks will be in a good mood today so it’s a good time to ask, been wondering for years: Why is Castle Leazes called Castle Leazes? Was there once a castle there? It’s just a big patch of grass, no?

Was there once a castle there? It’s just a big patch of grass, no? According to a google search, I didnt know that "Leazes meant meadowlands". Learnt something myself. “Leazes” means “meadowlands” and the tract of land on which the park is built has a history going back to the 13th century when King John gave the land to the townsmen of Newcastle to be used for grazing their cattle. AyeDubbleYoo
I don’t even know if Castle Leazes is an identifiable place or just a name for the previous stadium plan.
ponsaelius
It's the name of that specific part of The Town Moor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Castle_Leazes According to the councils character statement for the Leazes Conservation Area it is 'an area of common grazing land said to have been granted certain burgesses by King John as compensation for the enlargement of the castle moat'. If true that would explain the name.

cubaricho
Populus’ newest stadium is a sweet little NWSL stadium here in Denver. “A stadium in a park” is what they call it. They want it to be a “24/7 365” concept with restaurants and housing. I’m assuming these are the kinds of plans (not just a stadium) being thrown our way now by Populus and the like. Bigger stadium but can definitely see scope for the landscaping, boulevard stuff being used as a visual aid and sweetener to the Council. Thanks for sharing as really relevant if they’re going to get this through I think.

I’d just imagine the plans coming our way include lots of extras and not just here’s a stadium. I absolutely cannot wait for rendering season. TheGuv
I’ve been in the stay at SJP camp forever. I still think I am… However, there’s a part of me that can now accept moving knowing we finally won a trophy - and we will finally be able to parade it around SJP

Imagine if people like it I never really considered anything other than hatred for anything modern. If they could somehow make it uniquely ours or something we would recognise as Newcastle, I think I'd explode. Dr Venkman
Not *that* bothered what it looks like TBH as long as it’s functionally fit for purpose.
Fenham Mag
Yes, as long as it is built to maximise atmosphere and amplify noise. The whole bonds thing tarnished that. Tbf the bond scheme was a Freddie Fletcher initiative. Ultimately I'll always hold SJH in high regard. Couldn't care about his political views. Labour aren't exactly much better and over the years as I've got older I've learned to tolerate and respect people with different views to mine, whether that be political or otherwise, as long as they aren't extreme! What I do know is that without him we don't have the Newcastle United that we have today. We were on a one way road to oblivion when he stepped in. I was a season ticket holder when the Magpie Group which he headed, managed to oust McKeag and his cronies out. The ground was a crumbling wreck, we got drenched when it rained, any good players were sold, the team was shit, the crowds were down to 10, 11, 12k for some League games. He spotted the potential, more importantly he brought in Kevin Keegan and the rest they say is history but no doubting that the club we have today is due him and that decision to bring back Kevin Keegan. It changed the course of history for us for ever. He was hoodwinked by Ashley but I don't hold it against him. He had us all fooled for a while. Offering us free beer if we got into the ground early or buying everyone in Blubambu drinks, going in with the fans in his NUFC top, whatever, his charm offensive early doors did a real number on us until his mask slipped. Plus we were getting into the day and age of Chelsea being Russian owned, The Middle East and America were wanting to get involved and SJH and Shepherd just didn't have the means to come close to competing with them. On the face of it, selling to a British born Billionaire with a background in sport didn't appear to be a bad choice. Aside from that I've met him before and thought he was a lovely bloke!
