Just read on another forum, that Big Sam told dyer to f*** off home at training today (Friday). Dyer was supposedly mucking about in shooting practice. Anyone else hear anything about this?

I'm totally at a loss how you can come to the conclusion that "The only people who come out of this looking bad are once again West Ham."

We set the original price and then just as Dire's about to put pen to paper, we lumped another £2 million on his price. IMO this makes NUFC look totally unprofessional.

If, as has been reported, West Ham were gloating about getting Dire on the cheap, so f****** what? We set the original price, from our perspective Dire's damaged goods, £6 million was a good price and now we're lumbered with the spoilt f****** brat who'll be loathe to pick his feet up for us this season.

Sam Allardyce and Chris Mort have both said in the media that West Ham tried something, that's why we upped the price, it had nothing to do with gloating if you're on about the rumour about somebody talking in a London Casino.  Allardyce said: "If Curbs started it, then we are more upset than they are, that is a fact. Why? That is confidential. He is not as upset as we are about West Ham. In the end, we decided he was undervalued. We escalated the valuation to what we thought was realistic and West Ham did not want to roll with it."

Mort said: "It got uncomfortable the way West Ham went about trying to do the transfer. Therefore we felt we'd be happy for Kieron to stay and they would have to pay more to acquire him. I'm not going to elaborate. But they went about their business the wrong way, to my mind."

I would add - with irony and don't really want to go over old ground but it deserves it - that if a different chairman had done this, then MICK [and many others] would be harping on and on about how embarrassing and wrong it is.

And it is exactly that. If we have lumped this fee on for the sake of it, it is bang out of order. And if Dyer has lost interest in the club, then shot ourselves in the foot too.

You're right, if we have bumped up the price for the sake of it then we would have been out of order, that doesn't appear to be the case.

Whoever we buy has to have pace, it's something we're lacking at the moment.

Spot on.

Can't really see the point in buying Gudjohnsen now we've bought Smith. Barnes would be a great purchase but they'd want daft money now....upwards of £10M I would imagine.

Couple of rumours in the last few days' papers regarding Barnes have mentioned £2-3m. ???

Btw:

if anyone at St James’ Park thinks the Dyer deal can be resurrected then they are mistaken.

What happened there then?

Just spoken to a friend of mine who is a friend of Hogan Ephraim (a West Ham reserve who was on loan at Colchester last season). He says that Dyer trained with them for half an hour, then Newcastle found out and called him back to Newcastle so he had to stop. Interesting.

Curbs: I'm disappointed with myself

By Martin Lipton 13/08/2007

Alan Curbishley last night copped the blame for the opening-day Hammer horror show that squandered all his survival goodwill in the space of 90 miserable minutes.

Curbishley admitted he was tactically out-thought by Sven Goran Eriksson as West Ham were put to the sword by City's scratch side.

Half-time jeers were replicated at the final whistle by the few left inside Upton Park after home fans went streaming for the exit gates long before the end.

And while Hammers boss Curbishley, who looked gaunt and washed-out by what he had witnessed, pointed the finger at his players, he conceded the primary responsibility was his. The Upton Park chief said: "There were some disappointing performances from everybody today, and I'm disappointed with myself.

"I didn't do anything before the game about the way they were going to shape up and I moved too many people around in the second half.

"I was just trying to get a spark out of the players when perhaps it would have been better to leave them alone."

Curbishley, already under fire, admitted he will ask chairman Eggert Magnusson for more cash to strengthen, with a fresh approach for Kieron Dyer in the offing.

Why won't you give the new board the benefit of the doubt just like you always did with the last lot though? Hardly seems fair.

Asking Egghead for more cash is a bit of a pisstake. The baldy git hasn't had his hand out of his pocket since he bought the club.

Fix the problem yourself Curbs - you useless lump of shite.

That said, if you still fancy Dyer, fill yer boots baldy.

So NE5 would rather believe the cockney twats than our chairman and manager.

You don't know any more than he does tbh

No, but I don't believe Mort was lying when he said this had been done as a response to dodgy behaviour on their part.

yeah, lawyers never lie.

What sort of response is upping the price?? in my book, either fucking childish, or stupid. Pull the deal, fair enough, but to turn round and go "nah, we want more now"...that sounds more like a group of people too used to getting their own way, not good business sense.

I don't think Ahsley is stupid, not by a long chalk, but i think what he did on taht occasion was very stupid.

Yeah, and you don't know what happened either, but go ahead and believe Magnusson/Curbishley and the cockneys rather than our people, if that makes you feel good.
