Ranking is based on last four seasons performance ranking but you can't have more than two teams from one country (unless they all won the CL/Libertadores/equivalent - as is case of the Brazilian teams). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2025_FIFA_Club_World_Cup_qualification Working down you ultimately get to Salzburg in 18th due to process of elimination. I'm sure they'll make sure to close that loophole next time and allow more teams from one country.

Again tho, after Cardiff changed their kit to red and the subsequent backlash the FA made a rule that they have the power to block such moves. It’ll never happen so pointless worrying about it

Fair enough.

I'd say it's fair to include the purchase price in a statement like "they've spent X amount on us". I don't know where the £338m mentioned comes from, but I'd be amazed if it e.g. included sponsorship money they have brought in through related parties like Sela, Noon and Saudia. All told I'd say they (the owners combined) have invested well over half a billion in us and probably closer to 750m. By my definition that's the best part of a billion, and it's only the beginning too. Are people seriously suggesting our owners haven't invested enough? Quite what were you expecting post Ashley if I may ask?

"Aright lads nee need to worry aboot selling wor best players, or building the stadium and training ground and divent worry aboot players coming in, Eddie's wish is our command, fuck Sunderland "
-
They were spot on last season to be fair you're right i just think I really liked the Castore ones and even the previous addidas ones I wasn't a fan off for the most part
-
Name changes are fundamental - not sure how I feel about kit tbh; most are the result of random choices taken in a Victorian sports shop. I’d rather not, of course (though I have always thought that dark blue shorts - like we had for our first few decades - would look alright)
-
Can someone please explain to me how and why Salzburg managed to get themselves into this competition?
-
It cost PIF £30m to buy Staveley’s stake (the Reubens took the other half) You’d definitely hope that infrastructure is capital investment and not a loan - interest in loans is included in PSR calcs

What sort of communication are you after ?

I'd slightly disagree here on regional opportunities. I did an equally expensive MBA (Durham) and raised VC funding for my own startup(s). In Newcastle. Agree that London is the centre of attention for most things in UK life. But it's absolutely possible, though admittedly more difficult, in the regions.

Already looking forward to the big C.F. Pachuca vs Salzburg match at 11pm. Proper 50/50 match at the bookies and with R. Madrid and Hilal in their group, a draw isn't really good for either.

Levy furiously checking if there’s a cooling off period. At least he would be if he wasn’t a committed malding nonce himself
-
No, they can’t just up and change it like the crest. A name change etc needs approval from the FA which would be highly unlikely. The Hull City name change was rejected by the FA

Yes I am from one of those areas. Lots of gangs in my neighbourhood. Lad in my school one year above murdered at 14. Another couple of lads spent 15 years in prison for a separate murder ahead 15-17. Numerous incidents and stories of the usual drugs, violence l, cycles of destruction and a lot of wasted potential. By the same token lots of my peers have become extremely successful too. Our proximity to one of the most affluent cities in the world is a massive privilege that can’t be undervalued. Business, property, media, sports, entertainment - none would be possible without living in and being from London. I did a £25k MSc from LSE and worked at a VC funded startup in London at the same time. None of that would have been possible if I was from Bradford.

That previous post of mine is sarcasm, BTW. Before anyone jumps on me.

I hate that so many of you are watching this fake tournament. Go read a book or do heroin or something productive.
-
Perhaps different players just have different priorities, circumstances and opportunities that align at different times.
-
This debate is hilarious. Some need to be less defensive about Newcastle and not start slagging off other cities just because some would rather live or work there
-
Howe is the type of manager who would have foregone Diego Maradona and Lionel Messi due to their lack of height and athleticism.
-
They were boring & bad remakes. Not awful but very unremarkable

So many people are echoing Gabby Agbonlahor's take on it – that he would take less to play for Brentford than Newcastle. A player would only choose Chelsea over Newcastle for football reasons, nothing else. Chelsea’s got a great project, a young team, and long contracts. That whole "London's fancy nightlife etc" thing is just nonsense. Tonali left Milan for Newcastle with his Lass! If it was us and Crystal Palace/Fulham etc competing for JP, he'd pick us. Football reasons. We just need to offer him a good package and project, and he'll come here instead of Chelsea. Honestly, that whole London thing is overrated. Chelsea, Arsenal, and maybe Spurs are the hot teams in London right now, especially against Newcastle. Forget the nightlife etc.
