What for?

He’s basically the Steve Parish of the league. Same hair and all.

No player is ever untouchable at Atalanta. They are ultimately a small club (although without doubt the best run club in Italy with the best academy) and their model is that they do sell. They generally sell on their terms though as they don't have any financial issues. I think with Scalvini they would rather keep him and hope he develops further rather than sell at a perceived dip in value.

OK, recent memory, I wasn’t considering the 90s ones -
Best transfer windows in memory 1995/96 Ginola Hislop Ferdinand Barton (Asprilla Batty) 1996/97 for Shearer alone 2001/02 Bellamy and Robert were game changers 2015/16 Wijnaldum Thauvin Mbemba Mitrovic were four of the best young players in Europe 2021/22 Jan Trippier Burn Targett Bruno Wood

Wow humiliating for Boca

Definitely agree on a limit on squad sizes of players owned by the club over the age of 21 - I have said this for years. A limit on transfers per year would also make sense. Unfortunately with multi club ownership they're basically already ahead of the game on any of these rules being brought in. It is a shambles though. These clubs have got themselves into position of power with huge spending headroom through previous baked in growth and revenue from pre-PSR days. It then gives them freedom to sign numerous players at the right age/price they don't need or even plan on playing, just because they're a good investment, to then be punted on for a profit. And accumulating so many players in a market where everybody is after the same profile means they actually control supply.

“Let me be clear, you are not getting Scalvini” did I do it right? It worked that last time

He's trying to justify it mate -
Didn't realise Atalanta were majority-owned by an American who made his fortune in private equity. Bodes well for any attempt to buy "untouchable" players from them - worked in our favour with Milan two summers ago

I think 4 quality additions to the first team would probably make it the best transfer window in living memory TBH. It's certainly more than I'm expecting. Without a major sale that would be close to a dream window, even though I don't 'want' Elanga all that much. -

I think we need to write an open letter on Twitter to NFFC to ask them to release Elanga

I dont think 45m for Elanga is insane, in fact its incredible value.... unless you are talking about some of the nonsense asking prices in the press, which we haven't gone anywhere near. I find it hard to criticise the club for over spending on domestic targets, when we haven't done that once.... even Chris Wood now looks a 25m player. Also this bizarre insistence that we are only shopping domestically because there are fewer concrete links to players abroad. Domestic journalists rarely know foreign targets, it took an Italian to suggest we after Scalvini, it took an Asian Journalist to break the young Korean kid story. So far our transfers since the takeover have been an overwhelming success, perhaps unsustainably so but we've had a period in transfer exile and I expect us to resume service.

When I saw that stat about Elanga doing the most sprints in the league, I knew Howe would be pushing hard for the guy. I get the first offer is likely to be rejected, but you don't want to antagonise a trade partner either. Unless it's @Shays Given Tim Flowers in which case it doesn't matter, because he won't trade with you anyway, so antagonising him is the best possible outcome.
