Newcastle United vs. Chelsea: 11/05/25 @ 12:00 (TNT Sports)
Ghandis Flip-Flop replied to HaydnNUFC's topic in Football
I’m fairly confident in this fixture, as even when the gulf between the two teams was massive under Mourihno, they had a honking record up here. It’s one of those occasions intangibles, much like our own honking record at the Amex, Villa's record at St James' which makes me think we'll get the result we need. Especially if the crowd do their part. ps: I’ll still be utterly bricking it approaching KO time though -
Douglas Luiz?

I don't think Newcastle and Sunderland are the reason why Gateshead have much lower attendances than they should have, at all. It's purely down to the stadium for me. I'd love a ball playing lower league side with a nice little compact stadium on my doorstep. Instead we've got one of the shittest matchday experiences in the entire UK. The concourse is ridiculous, it's often freezing, windy as fuck and there's absolutely bugger all next to the ground. On a cold week night you genuinely couldn't pay me these days, and I had a season ticket there just 10 years ago. The turnover of players doesn't help either, although that seemed to have slowed for a few years it appears to be back with a bang.

@joeyt Don't even, man.

Another shite keeper?
-
Sky would be wanking themselves to death if that's the scenario that unfolds. Would be gripping to be fair, would still make me sick with the wankfest they'll be if Chelsea make it.
-
Palace v Forest and Bournemouth v Villa are huge games. If they could both avoid away wins then we could go into Sunday knowing a win would all but guarantee us top 5.
-
I think if they go up, their stadium will show them up. They already suffer from not as many fans going because of the stadium, and also because SJP is in full view behind one of their goals, and the SOL is just a little further down the road at the other end. They just simply don’t have the money to build a new stadium, and right now they can’t look at their fanbase and say the demand is there.
-
They need someone who can replace Kroos, and TAA does that with his passing ability from RB. Valverde RCM helps immensely and they will spend big on a top RCB.
-
We’re just not losing away to Arsenal without something going drastically wrong or a huge slice of luck in their favour.
-
This is where I’m at. I think we are more than capable of getting 3 points from our final 2 games, possibly 4, depending on which Arsenal turns up. I’m just not convinced that we’ll beat Chelsea. It will be a hard game, if we had Joelinton I’d have a lot more faith.

The Europeometer™ (2024/25) - NUFC Qualify for Conference League (at least)

Yes I get that point but equally Arsenal winning the champions league is a hideous one. I actually think m if they get knocked out there might be a bit of a hangover anyway. They’ll still qualify for CL so maybe they just be a bit flat in general with “season over” scenario. -

This is basically the score. Fail to beat Chelsea we’d have to beat Arsenal away instead an hope results go for us. -
Beat Chelsea and we get top 5, don't beat them and it's going to be very hard, it's as simple as that . Always expected Chelsea to win yesterday so nothing has changed really with that result .
-
If they can get one of the last two managers back, and a few of the players they took to MK Dons, Crawley & Carlisle who didn't make the step up back as well, they'll have a chance. Not sure they really even want to go up.

Oseni being bought by St Mirren who have barely played him was a big blow. Churning their manager again can't have helped either. Wonder if they try and get the band back together - Willo and/or Elliot and retain Magnay as a coach again?

Brighton & Hove Albion 1-1 Newcastle United - 04/05/2025

Still it’s by design. Often they could turn back and recycle. But they’ll play a ball with such low success rate anyway. The level of direct we are is intentional. -

Palmer looked better and in Madueke and Neto they have real pace on the counter. The good thing is Chelsea can still be very vulnerable and are eminently beatable. It has changed from a few weeks back where I was extremely confident of this fixture but not less so even if I am confident of us at home. Our big players all need to turn up, it’s a game for Isak really. -
