I can't get away with him. Not sure if it's bellend attitute towards interviewers or what not, but I also think he goes missing against the top sides. It's all very well and good scoring four goals against Everton and what have you, but when was the last time he took a game by the scruff of the neck against a Liverpool or Arsenal? (I've not checked the stats, I'm going purely from memory so I'm sure he has had these types of performances but they must be few and far between). I'd rather Eze in my side than Palmer.

Bang on. Nickson is a huge asset, the best at what he does - spotting, scouting and speaking to players - and a workaholic whose air miles are off the scale. But he's thinly spread, and must be among the people at the club most frustrated at not getting deals over the line. I guess he's just used to it by now. Way back in Jan 2019, he had Raphinha lined up on loan with a buying option from Sporting only for Ashley and Charnley to veto it.

Didn't he also fly to Brazil to speak to Bruno? Nickson is clearly an important figure, beyond just player identification.

It's been 2 years since Tonali. 3 or more for Isak, Bruno & Botman. Easier to sell when we were the new rich club where we weren't hampered by PSR due to Ashley's lack of spending. We're obviously still very attractive to players but possibly not to the same level if it doesn't look like we're going to be PSG or City-ing our way due to PSR.

Just a casual reminder of who Steve Nickson is, at 1.45 on this video. For those of you who are worried that nothing is going on. Steve Nickson isnt just a scout, hes someone who talks to players about the project, becomes the first person to make contact with the opposition camp and convinces them to join. Look at the way Sven greets Nickson, not like a new acquaintance but as someone he'd likely met multiple times before. Just because we've been potless for 18 months doesn't mean that him (and Andy Howe) haven't persistently been watching and talking to players. It's happening all the time. We know who's available, we know who we'd like, sometimes these players go elsewhere and sometimes it takes a little while to get the green light but provided we have the money and the motivation, it's going to happen. Behind the Paul Mitchell shenanigans, there's still some very smart people at work.

Sounds like Palace are snapping up Ousmane Diomande. Watch him have a good season and double his market value. Meanwhile we're doing lots behind the scenes apparently...

It’s a bit on the players as well, what idiot would go there knowing Yamal has that position. Go to Barca and have it on your CV and get 5-10 minutes in the odd game as a sub or go to a less prestigious club still playing in the Champions league and who are competitive and play lots of minutes.
