Why would he ever trust Ashley? He ain't going to be bought off by him after being let down window after window. He wouldn't, the terms about training and academy would be in the contract as would his transfer terms.
-
Thing is, if he doesn't spend and has all this cash available next window he could technically offer the academy and training facilities without much extra expense whilst offering a sell to buy policy again. Rafa would sign on those terms.

Various: Mike Ashley in talks with Sheikh Khaled bin Zayed Al Nehayan

The transfer amounts is a little annoying. It's not just about the transfer funds with Rafa. He's asked for the training facilities to be improved as promised to Joe Kinnear, the academy to be improved, the U23s. These are possibly even more important to the club that a small transfer budget. The fact Ashley has no interest in spending in these sections despite the fact it would have no implications on the financial fair play rules shows exactly what interest Ashley has on the club. A few transfers shouldn't change any of this action. As the hashtag says, if Rafa goes, we go. -

The only person to lose in this scenario is you as SD don't do refunds but instead give you store credit so ultimately you're still giving them your money one way or another. You have 14 days to return goods purchased online to claim a refund. You would have to pay postage costs however. Different rules to in store. -

Agree with this. NUFC could have an attendance of zero for the entire season and it would still wouldn't be a losing enterprise for Ashley, the way everything centers around broadcast rights these days. Not totally true. Sky Sports want it to look like full stadiums. It's something mentioned many many times by Sky. They don't want empty stadiums and the numbers of matches shown would be down because of it. I guess, but even if that costs the club 10m pounds a year that's still peanuts compared to the sort of money he would need to pay for transfers to build a competitive team that the fans would be pleased with. I don't think anyone is suggesting not turning up is a case of preventing or allowing transfers. It's a show of support by the fans for Rafa and against Ashley's model. It may be fine to have no fans in the PL but running with Ashley's model following a relegation doesn't work and he'll know that. -

it's got a shitload of potential purely because of how simple it is can they reach people not on social media though? Douglas has said he wants to push it in the Chronicle. -

Vindicated basically. I like many others said they'd do as Rafa asked and back up which I've done by continuing my season ticket what looks to be one more season. My season ticket hasn't increased like many others as I was in the 10 year deal. If Rafa goes next season and Ashley stays then my season ticket wont be being renewed. -

Just a heads up, on your donations page on the worflags website, the 'Shop Now' button takes you to https://worflags.org.uk/donate/# instead of https://worflags.org.uk/shop/ Keep up the good work! -
I don't necessarily agree with this. At the end of the season he only has one year left on his contract so he's going to be cheaper because of that. So even a good performance shouldn't increase his fee too much saving us from buying the player out of this years pot leaving us more cash to spend on someone else. If he performances so well that someone else comes in and he leaves chances are same thing would have happened next year if his head could be turned so easily (See Merino). What I think will happen is he'll play for us this season, he'll be bought next year if Rafa stays and he performances well and we'll have saved a few bob this year.

The Keith Downie, Lee Ryder Twitter argument about this is very funny.
-
He sold Andy Carroll before all the top flight money for that much. No chance he'd sell that cheap. He may be happy to sell players (though to be fair usually only when we get relegated) but he tends to get their true worth for them. Apart from when Kinnear accidentally sold Cabaye too cheaply Hahaha I forgot about that deal

There was stuff mentioned last week that Rafa had requested a new contract for Jamaal even though he had only recently signed one. He sees it as supporting the players when they improve. They get better he backs them to get more from their deal. I do wonder if this has something to do with agents trying to force the clubs hand. Show a willingness to stay by signing a new contract as well as the club showing they want to keep you by offering it. We'll see I guess. Either way £20m is embarrassing and insulting to the player.

Newcastle United are yet to agree a fee with Stoke City for Matt Ritchie - despite strong interest for the winger from the Potters. An offer of £15million has been deemed as unacceptable by the Magpies and Rafa Benitez does not want to sell the Scotland international unless he is handed a quality replacement. Stoke are trying to turn Ritchie’s head with a wage packet of £75,000 a week plus bonuses but 28-year-old remains open to staying at Newcastle. It is believed that if United do decide to end his Toon career after two years then Ritchie’s preference would be a move back to the south coast rather than the Potteries. Both Middlesbrough and AFC Bournemouth have also been linked with Gosport-born Ritchie this summer. But United, who have been quoted some eye watering fees for the likes of Kenedy and Andros Townsend in recent days, are reluctant to sell reliable wide man Ritchie on the cheap. However, like the impending exit of Mikel Merino, Benitez will only sanction Ritchie’s exit once a replacement is sought. That was the case when the club signed Ki Sung-yueng last week on a free transfer with Merino due to join Real Sociedad in due course.

Yep, the only thing we might have done better was offer him a contract as then they'd have to pay some form of compo to us. I could be wrong with that though.
-
It's the reason why the real loss was only £15m, not £45m. As £30m was writing down players contracts and other assets, as a players contract is what they are worth from an accounting point of view. Yep, makes sense really .
-
Probably £200 000 in wages that lot. But the last set of accounts showed we'd paid off the likes of these already in the accounts for last year. They therefore shouldn't affect this years budget and any money gained from them leaving is a bonus. 1) We don't know which players were paid off from an accounting point of view. 2) That was in the promotion season. Oh I know we don't know who, but I image a few of those were on that list. Saivet, Lazaar and Sels would say definite. As for it being promotion I don't see how that matters ? The fact is the wages should out of the budget for this year so shouldn't go against Rafa.
