I've been exactly the same, I got fed up, stopped and the Nairn starting supporting Liverpool, got him back from the brink in that infamous 5th season then he lost all interest like me, even at 12 he couldn't stand it and Pardew, now he has a bit interest in tempted to get him back among it. Tho I i'll wait until Xmas to see how things go It's a valid point like. The club needs young fans to get the bug and follow the team. Massive amounts of disenchantment and apathy will only serve to kill an entire generation's support. Really encouraged to see loads of kids there on Tuesday, there's hope yet.

Took the boy on Tuesday for the first time and he thoroughly enjoyed it. Mentioned to a few on here about how he's drifting away from football and if we weren't careful he'd either not like it or just start supporting Chelsea or City or someone like that so I had to get him into Newcastle and thankfully he's now got the bug. I walked out of Cardiff on 60 mins and hadn't even considered going back until the situation with the boy was coming to a head. I take him to the pictures, bowling, museums etc and Tuesday night was very little different tbh. Was pleased with what I saw, opposition wasn't great obviously, but it was a world away from what drove me away in 2013. I'll see how it goes for the next season or 2, odd game here or there and if he's still into it and the club is being run the way I think it should be then I'll commit and get us a ST. More for him so he can enjoy the roller-coaster but the green shoots are there imo.
  6. Wew. What's the story there?
  7. Except he's 3 years younger than Cabaye. I know. Imagine Cabaye when he's 33ish.....pace going a bit, can't get around the pitch as well as he currently does but hasn't lost any of his ability or vision - that's De Jong now.
  8. Went tonight with the boy, came home, watched the draw live and the boy actually wants to go to this too.
  9. Had he swapped shirts at HT with a Northampton CM I would honestly have struggled to notice. Instantly forgettable appearance, literally can't remember him doing anything worthy of note.
  10. Very talented player. He's the player Cabaye will be when he's about 33.
  11. Looks like the music box in Camberwick Green.
  12. Routine, comfortable and professional performance. Got after them early, went 2 up and simply held them at arm's length for 75 minutes. It's exactly what you'd expect a PL side to do to Northampton but it's something we'e struggled to do effectively for years now. Thauvin's going to be a star, disappointed with Aarons and the rest did well enough. Ref was fucking awful too.
  13. Opened up a load of cash turnstiles, suggests demand may not have been huge... From 6.15pm on Tuesday, cash turnstiles will be in operation and will be located at: Gallowgate East Corner - 48, 49, 50, 51, 52, 53 Gallowgate Upper - 60, 61, 62, 63, 66 Gallowgate West Corner - 70, 71, 72, 73, 74 Leazes Middle - 25, 26
  14. Another goal wrongly disallowed against Liverpool. They're not even trying to hide it ffs.
  15. That front 6 could easily be shifted into 3 or 4 different formations and still do well imo. De Jong, Aarons, Tiote (to a lesser extent) and Cisse could also be brought in as and when.
  16. By no means is it entirely Krul's fault. But I've gone back and looked at seasons past and the pass charts are more or less the same. It's much more understandable in this game but the one last year, for example, against QPR is mind-blowing (in fairness, Riviere was the targetman, so, yikes). It's a failure to either a) improve what is an important aspect of Krul's game or b) modify the tactics/personnel so it doesn't have to be such a huge problem (or c) both). It's an indictment on Krul's poor long passing but it's also an indictment on our team's continued inability to generate play from the back. McClaren has tried to do that a bit more this season but there is still no cohesive link between the back 5 and the midfield, leaving Krul to punt it upfield, generally inaccurately. The charts against Southampton and Swansea look very similar. We've got to find a better way to start attacks from back to front. Must admit I've not looked at previous charts of this nature but aiming for a single person who is being picked up by 2 central defenders isn't going to produce much blue. It's a snapshot of what happened in that particular game but if you're saying there is a repeating pattern, and I've go no doubt you're correct, then it needs addressing. I'm hoping a change in playing style will negate his weakness and we don't have to resort to lumping it up to a lone target man who's constantly battling alone by himself.
  17. That tells me he was mostly aiming for Mitrovic who was pretty isolated for long periods of the game. The nature of the fixture explains the abundance of long red arrows. I'd like to think the same diagram at home to Watford would look a lot different. That's not to excuse his poor distribution mind, it's the biggest weakness in his game, but aiming for a lone target man whilst hanging on desperately for a point is fairly understandable.
  18. Confident he'll play more games, be more involved and really make his name this season. Looks like he's got it on a string at times.
  19. I'd like to thnk that when the easier fixtures come around he won't feel the need to have 2 sitting in there and could play the 1. You could still play Sissoko and Wijnaldum advanced on that, wingers on the wing and Mitrovic to hold it up. Horses for courses.

    Steve McClaren

Can understand the subs, would have been lovely to have brought Aarons on for his pace but I felt we needed fresh legs in the middle of the park a bit more. Discretion is the better part of valour and it was the sensible sub to make at that time.
  21. Hell of a point that. Well pleased with what I saw, hanging on like fuck but working hard for the shirt. The minimum I expect is effort and organisation and there was shitloads of that today.
