With Keegan's history you could make a case for either side although for me there wasn't enough respect shown for someone who knew more about the game than Ashley or his team have been able to grasp. What is undeniable though is that since Keegan left the decision making has been a disgrace from Kinnear's over-staying his welcome to dithering without a manager while he was laid up in hospital. No one else is to blame for that. in a nutshell - if we go down this is why Yup, this. Have a certain degree of sympathy that we may not have been able to get anyone better than Kinnear short term, but as soon as we were taken off the market, the seriousness of our situation needed to be realized and acted upon far sooner. Leaving aside all previous issues like debts or Keegan, they failed massively in this respect.

Indications were that it was a new direction that if done correctly could remedy years of decline from the ground up, but while there are a number of positives that can still be held onto, it is clear that it's all gone tits up whether due to personnel, personality clashes, changes of circumstance financially or otherwise or just downright idiocy from Asley or his employees. I'm not even sure there has been much of a sytem for many months now, never mind whether it had at the start actually been followed in the way Baggio etc had wanted. Blind faith? Nah, from what I saw of it it was mainly hope and a reluctance to damn the model, despite clear incompetence in the implementation. Effectively they're being criticised for being optimistic, and I'm not sure that sticking the boot into people for holding onto the hope that something good might be on its way now that we're even further in the shit is particularly valiant. Everyone is suffering, why make it worse, eh. Ya miserable bunch of Roeder sypethisers, Robson slaggers, Robert kicking, Bellamy bashing, Souness sucking, Shepherd fucking, Allardyce apologists.

A jolly old end of season of giggle? Oh I'm sure that, even if you removed any emotional connection anyone might actually have with the club, as businessmen they were chuckling and rubbing their nips with delight as their investment teeters on the fucking brink. Some guy wears a clearly self-deprecating shirt, maybe as he lost a bet, maybe to deal with the stress everyone is under in his own way. No biggie imho. Yay for the cockney tosspot!
-
No it's not! If the person was a friend or associate of Ashley's it would mean a great deal. A picture of shirt and wearer would be useful. What would it mean? It would mean Ashley’s talk of ‘moving forward together’ is bullshit. How? To answer that question you first have to ask what this particular message was supposed to mean, and why Ashley’s mate wanted to convey it to a public audience. So, why do you think Ashley’s bodyguard (allegedly) had No9 Cockney Tosser on the back of his shirt? What does it mean? Do you know? I don't imagine he did want to "convey it to a public audience" I personally have no idea what it was on the back of his shirt for, nor do I think it warrants an explanation tbh. Still if people want to be childish & use it as reason to moan & whinge on, let them get on with it IYAM. Why do you think Ashley’s bodyguard (allegedly) had No9 Cockney Tosser on the back of his shirt? Why do you think Ashley’s bodyguard (allegedly) had No9 Cockney Tosser on the back of his shirt?

If true, what do people see it as, some kind of attack? In what sense? Sounds like he was tired of being called it so stuck it on his shirt, was on his stag do, or had to wear it for a bet. Either way, big fucking deal. Gallows humour is all we have at the moment.

Nolan saying he is implementing all the right things for the long term and hopes he'll be working with him for a very long time. (rough summary from nufc TV interview)

Hopefully. Plus prestige for the city, tourist dollar etc. /not rising to your cynicism.

Chill oot, would be great. Besides in 2015 the pitch will be some kind of organic free range nanotube rug.

That's fair enough, and that's also all he will be judged on ultimately. It's always nice to hear that positive progress is being made away from matchdays though. In theory that progress should follow through. Oh, I agree and Shearer has my total support, though it does seem to be the case that Taylor say's this about every manager that walks through the door. /Grumpy git mode: OFF Regarding Taylor though, not his biggest fan but pleased as punch to see him in contention for the game. We need people to run through brick walls right now, and hopefully his example will pull the rest of the buggers with him on monday.

If Shearer doesn't get results and get them playing with heart on the pitch, and he hasn't so far imo, then I couldn't give two tits that their monitors were going mental the day he was unveiled.

The Chronicle are pathetic like. That is just...... Christ. Not going to defend Barton getting sent of but I wouldn't have minded one little bit if he felt the urge to lamp that twofaced wormy journo.

It is funny how journalists get away with this sort of reporting: - 'Player X' says to journalist "Blah, blah we hate the rules, etc. You can quote me but don't name me." Beye says to journalist "I'm loving the serious nature of the new management set-up. You can name me but don't put what I said as a quote." PS - BottledDog is a spoilsport. But yeah, even with the quotes, there is a whole shitbucket of writers spin in those articles. It's not like Beye actually is endorsing the rules, the closest he gets to saying anything like that is "I’m happy with what they’ve done up to now, and really believe they will keep the club in the Premier League." which is pretty damn generic.

Not sure they particularly back up what the writer is implying mind.

Was half asleep, but pretty sure when listening to the Times podcast last night Patrick Barclay said Shearer as manager is a disaster for Newcastle. A DISASTER!!!! /Also reiterated that Owen has been Newcastles worst ever signing also iirc. //not sure i can argue to much with that one to be honest.

Yes i did, they were asked to play at HT, i'm out on Thursday night with 2 of the band so can confirm whether or not they're doing it. I hope they don't play at half-time, or I'm going home, they're rubbish. I don't think downbeat indie shite's going to get the crowd whipped into a frenzy. can we not get some kind of ridiculously aggressive band to play to give everybody a total bloodlust?! Bit of metal or something, lets get AC/DC in, they're on tour and the Brian Johnson's a Geordie. Imagine AC/DC at half-time?! What a belta! Have to agree with the bit in bold. Toss band imho. /good luck to them if they do it though //anything's better than cheerleaders.

Fair enough, I agree with that. I just dont get the impression that he sits at home or in his office, thinking things through and about what is next in his steps to develop NUFC. The Shearer appointment smacks of the way it will always be with him - desperate decisions at the last minute because his hand has been forced. See, I don't think that is his job particularly. Very few owners are hands on and as Robson stated he doesn't interfere, just sets out that he is willing to invest an extra £20 million over whatever the club can generate every year (not set in stone though to be fair as he has already gone way over that due to the club currently running at a loss) and puts the people in place to run the club and set out the 5, 10, whatever year plans. His main failing as I see it has been that those people he has put his trust in and appointed have advised badly, appointed badly, and not halted the slide where it mattered, on the pitch. That being the case, and unlike others seeing no genuine malice in any of his actions and thinking he does have a genuine interest in the club as well as an obvious interest in his investment, I see no reason that he can't turn it around if he learns from his mistakes and gets the right people on board and he plows some more money in. So far this has been painfully slow, but at least has shown the willingness to listen and change things and that is positive (small I grant you, but it's something to hold onto at least). The barrier that will always be there though is the fact that he initially underestimated the debts and how much of a money pit the club had become. I simply don't think he has enough money any more to turn the club around in the short term. He was at least quick to realise this and put the call out to local business men to get involved and invest early on last year but it doesn't look like anyone is there to answer the call. Basically he fucked up in the advisors he appointed and with his dwindling fortune he'll be stretched now to start over and move the club forward. If he cuts and runs, fine fuck off and I hope we get in a new owner who can hit the ground running. But (in the absence of any serious alternatives) if he strikes it lucky with Shearer, keeps learning, and feels he can find the money to cover the losses while also heavily investing in the team, then, yes... ...he has my support.

Long for the return of Shepherd?

Came accross pretty well there. Think they had to use pretty delicate diplomacy to bring someome else in after Kinnears insistance of still having a say from his armchair in the first place, and he knows there will be another nightmare decision to make end the end of the season. How we do in the next 8 games are all that matters for now. Agreed.

you know what the system is ? Not a clue. But considering he said he wouldn't work under the structure (i.e. quotes in the OP), either the structure/system has changed, or Shearer's just changed his mind. Or Shearer knew no more than he had gathered from the press, the odd contact left at the club, or God forbid, the rampant speculation on message boards. Question marks galore though. Who knows. Still can't get over the fact that its April the first. Not a massive worry granted, but I wonder where this leaves Kinnear.
