  1. For that first point, did Shearer get the same stick in 98 after coming back from a career threatening injury out of form and clearly not fully fit and at his peak? Shearer had a lot more minutes under his belt though iirc.
  2. He has been a flop but the money spend on the likes of Luque and Marcelino is surely worse. At least he's contributed a few goals. Certainly been awful value for money though.
  3. If we manage to get a decent owner in and we can bounce straight back up then we will be in a lot better state than we were when Ashley took over in terms of the financial state with no debt and the the huge earners gone. Its a bloody huge if though.
  4. For Lee yes, but Speed seems to be a good coach. Aye I think Speed could even make a good manager, but theres nothing to say Rob Lee wouldn't be a good coach. He was a top pro, brilliant player and he would work well with the kids especially i reckon. Nobody really knows how good coaches are though really. Well theres the likes of Brian Kidd who has had huge praise over the years but in general we don't hear enough to be in a position to point the finger.
  5. Our fans always seem to target a coach for criticism. Carver, Terry Mac, Wadsworth, Hughton, Pearson, Saunders. If Dowie wasn't Shearer's appointment he would have got it as well. If Rob Lee and Gary Speed come in it will be job for the boys if we don't have a good season next year.
  6. Only if they have money to invest in the team and it won't delay any transfer plans. I'd love a new owner of the club who I could trust.
  7. Keep him. He'll contribute more than his fair share in that league.
  8. Thats what we need. Said it in another thread, Beckford and Chopra. Theres goals there. Forget the Sunderland shit, we want whats best for the club and Michael Chopra is one of the best Championship strikers, and I'm sure he would love to turn his fortunes around at Newcastle and potentially become a hero getting the goals to take us back up. He's clearly a bit of a twat, but he'll get the goals. Beckford, Chopra, Carroll, Ranger and maybe someone in on loan. Theres your strikers, and we've got the basis of a good defence with Beye and Taylor staying.
  9. Chopra, Carroll, Beckford, Derbyshire, Ranger?
  10. I didn't have my Newcastle top on for the match on Sunday, but a few hours afterwards I went home pissed as a fart, went straight to my wardrobe and got my 99/00 toon top out, put it on then got a taxi to wor lasses. The whole house supports Sunderland the bastards. The taxi driver supports us as well so we had a right old rant Had a BBQ round here as well yesterday and I took some stick but I wasnt going to let the mackem twats get to me. Kept my top on until this morning. Fuck them.
  11. We will do well to keep Bassong and Enrique. What a fucking defence we would have if we keep them all.
  12. I don't think Boro will be a force next season unless they spend a lot of the money they make in transfers. They've always had some decent youngsters to come into the team but I'm not convinced they will be good enough to get them up.

    Steve Harper

I don't understand why people are saying our underperformers aren't good enough for the Championship. Theres hardly anyone in that squad who is League One standard, most of them are more than good enough for that league. Obviously we need to sell because of high wages, people wanting out and to raise funds for the players we want. Theres a huge difference in the quality between the Premiership and Championship.
  14. Look at his alleged wage. We can't afford to keep him. If we keep the players who have made sounds that they are staying and the ones who recently signed new contracts then that will probably be it with regards to keeping any other high earners. Harper, Beye, Taylor, Butt and Duff will be on £40,000+ I would imagine. Then theres the players we signed in January.
  15. Barton would be outstanding in the Championship if he stayed fit but he's a fucking cunt and he can't be relied on so we should sell.
  16. Derbyshire would be a great signing in the Championship but I doubt he would need to drop down a division. He would easily get 20+ imo. He's a finisher but we will need a right winger. I am quite confident Duff will be productive if we keep him. I actually think Carroll will get a fair share of goals if he is one of our main 4 strikers.
  17. Both have been absolutely shite since they signed but they will be important for us next season. If Nolan sorts his fitness out he could be good for a few goals from midfield next season.
  18. Wor lass has just took a mega huff because she is hungover today so she's decided shes staying in the house and she wants me to stay in and watch the match there WHO IS SHE FUCKING KIDDING
  19. Past it. He's a good pro though and I bet he cares more than most people in our squad.
  20. If we stay up now I am getting fucking hammered on Sunday neet.
  21. I'm dreading it really. Wor lasses brother and dad both have season tickets for Sunderland. The amount of arguments and banter i've had taking the piss out of them and getting it back off them. This Sunday is going to be a totally different thing though. I'm fucked if we go down. Cunts. Saying that if the perfect scenario happens it would be monumental.
