But buying an expensive forward we don't need isn't exactly prudent. Don't get this. We've got Cisse (poss ACN), Ba (poss ACN), Shola (injury prone) and Sammy (injured) to my knowledge. This lot would be lucky to last a full PL season, nevermind UEFA and the others on top. If Carroll regains his form - and there's no reason to doubt that under Pardew- then he gives us another dimension. Who gives a f*** if it means we lump it to the forwards now and again. Pardew has clearly shown he'll play the team that enables us to defeat the opposition in the most effective way. Some teams this will mean route one, others our 4-3-3. Exactly, we are going to need to rest Ba and Cisse at times this season. I'd rather have more than the Ameobi's and heaping pressure on Campbell and Sammy isn't a great idea. I did however think we might wait Carroll out until January when we know about the the African Cup and buy a more versatile pacey winger/striker in the mean time, but if they cave in to 12/13m now why not.

I am only half as bothered about this one as I was at the start of the summer. Since - Tavs looked decent in Pre-season - Good signed on and Remi Streete is back to full fitness and tipped for big things - Douglas turned up to training looking like Sol Campbell - Perch looked solid at CB against Spurs Not complaining if we do end up signing him, but not that bothered if we don't. We have a bit of depth, i'd rather see Tavs get some games. That is however more sentiment than a mentality that will get us into the top 4. We don't have a top 4 selection of CB's. We do have players that will work damn hard for the shirt every time they play, not come here for the paycheck and not moan about getting rotated. Whether the honest hardworking approach can get us to where we want to be, who knows?

Came in and out of the game a bit yesterday. Always impressed by his attacking ability when he turns it on, a wonder to watch. However I was really impressed with his tracking back and defensive work. MOM for me yesterday.

None of that lot would get a game for our second string. Funnier because there was a time that Huntington was tipped for big things, Chopra was the second coming, Pattison was tipped as the next Gazza, O'Brien was a classic old fashioned hit and run, tons of pace, crossing winger and Ramage and Edgar had potential to be solid squad players. Rose tinted glasses are a belter, maybe we will be saying the same in six years time about Ameobi, Vuckic, Abeid, Bigi, Ferguson, Tavs etc..

Like to get this guy, but only if we sign Debuchy. Pieters would give decent cover for CB and push Santon. I am not at all worried about signing another CB after seeing Perch yesterday. I think we are fine with Colo, Saylor, Willow, Perch, Good, Tavs and Remi.

Meh, not bothered with a one game ban. It is just about merited, it was heat of the moment, I think he basically wanted to tap the guy on the shoulder to get him to turn around so he could give him a piece of his mind, just got caught in the heat of the moment.

Disappointing to miss Colo, but it isn't worth the risk. Hopefully we will see Colo, Marv and Anita all starting on Thursday.

Exactly, tbh if he keeps himself in shape and has a good work ethic he is a valuable squad player at least for 6 years for us.

Despite frustration in the transfer market for our main targets we have some pretty strong depth in midfield. Fergie is certainly a great part of that. Think it is more than possible he will be loaned out though...might be wise to wait until January though to see how the squad is coping. He needs games to improve but it will be particularly hard to get past Gutierrez, Marveaux and possibly Obertan, Ben Arfa and Amalfitano.
