Ideal. but Not interested apparently.

Good to see it back on the BBC, was looking forward to watching it, does anyone in N.America know if its being picked up and shown? The Ghana team have impressed me the past two tournaments, torn between supporting Beye, Faye or Martins though. Geremi Meh! Will give some nice relief from events in the premiership , especially as we have 4 times the chance of winning if you support all our players!

Seriously dont get your hopes up, I would be hugely suprised if he was even under serious consideration let alone get appointed. That said the quotes in the guardian today are reasonably hopeful. "I have had no official approach from Newcastle but I am flattered to be linked with such speculation," Deschamps said last night. "It would be an exciting challenge. Newcastle are a big club."
-
Maybe deschamps can invite desailly to the tea party?

Good to know the press still dont have a clue. mancini will be on ssn tmrw outside the house he bought two years ago.
-
Cant see us appointing him tbh. we shall see.

Not my first choice but a different league to the likes of hughes rednapp and mclaren Etc. safest choice if the above is all we can get.

FFF president 'reassured' Houllier not moving to Tyneside
toontownman replied to NSG's topic in Football
Either way if shearer gets assistant he will be expected to take over. if the partnership goes bad it will be houlliers fault. if it goes well but gets stagnant it will be houllier holding al back, time to move upstairs gerard. either way houllier is on to a loser. its something im sure he is aware of -

If shearer and houllier got us so far would i trust shearer to take us further? probably still have doubts. but then moving houllier to dof/shearer bringing in a few fresh coaching faces to spice things up Would be almost as much as a gamble as bringing someone new in. although on the flip side it would be harder if shearer/houllier failed miserably. would you trust shearer ever again or inevitably houllier would be blamed. -

I thought he and houllier were still close. owen has certainly spoken highly of him several times since he left merseyside. didnt think they had any grudges at all. maybe its all one sided though -

I like houllier whether he would get the time he needs here is debatable. dont think he can really go toe to toe with the likes of wenger or fergie but will get us a damn sight closer than almost everyone else mentioned. having shearer at his side would certainly be a great bargaining chip for time. could also see him coming in as dof too. -
This, as always has been the case.
-
Keegans downfull was always his tactical side. Few better motivators or man managers we have had. Whether Shearer is anymore intelligent on the tactical front remains to be seen.
-
its fine, we will have King Kev, Alan, Speedo, ferdinand and Lee coaching and Pav as gk coach. unstoppable you watch. At least the feel good factor will return for a couple of months! Before relegation that is.
-
This. Well I guess now is the best time to do it. We might aswell keep the world laughing just a little bit longer, the sketch is so long maybe everyone will forget which part they are laughing at. Shearer and Keegan, dear god.. Just a couple of months ago would have been the funniest, most mocked thread to be laughed off the website. Now its actually a viable option.

Big concerns with hughes: 1. No Charisma If he comes, much like Rednapp wont come with the blessing of even half the fan base, its a huge mess and a huge job to come here. I dont think he has the character to swing the fans or woo the press, and to be honest I am already bored of him whinging and crying about games everytime I see an interview. 2. The players Not to far off when Souness came we are at a stage where a few players think they are bigger and better than the manager, think they know enough and dont want to listen. Is Hughes someone our so called "Stars" will be interested in listening to or learning from. Hughes doesnt have the experience of handling big players or spending big money, can he attract the pedigree of player Ashley will demand when handing him money? Hughes did well at Wales, why because he was ultimately respected by the welsh and was young and fresh. Much like if Shearer had walked in he has friends in the dressing room that would back him and play for him. 2. Souness Mark two? Going back to Blackburn to get a manager, except this one has never won anything. People seem to forget Souness had Blackburn in top 6 territory and playing some great attacking football, when we hired him they were at a malaise, much like Blackburn this season. I havent been impressed at all the last two seasons we were at Blackburn, they look as disorganised as we do now, they do have fight, an improvement from what we have been seeing yes but they dont have the pressure piled on them like our team inevitable will. Least we forget at times last season Hughes was being tipped for the sack after several terrible run of games. Hughes comes across as a bully boy coach much like Souness, the only difference is Souness has respect for doing it in the game and winning things so to an extent could get away with it. Dont get me wrong, we could do worse than Hughes, but he doesnt even make the list of who I would like. He just looks like another manager waiting to get swallowed up by the tyne sea. We can only afford to appoint a manager that: Has the Charisma and spirit to inspire not only the fans but the players. Has the experience of winning things amongst decent competition. Can handle the egos of our dressing room and the pressures that come with our club. Anything less can see us going to ruins.. its not just the fans that are looking to Ashley and Mort for the right appointment. The players too need the right man.

Cacapa is right up there with them imo...harsh not to get a nomination.

Hitzfeld is obviously still the best choice from those three, although we wouldnt be able to get him until the summer, he said bayern would be his last club to manage and is reputedly all but signed up to manage the swiss national side. If he was up for it, there would be few better, but I think that one came and went. Van Gaal would be great, (was appointed manager here last friday according to Wiki!) someone that could really get under the skins of the top guys in the league and I dare say out wit them too. Would bring great things here but again he is very happy where he is and like Hitzfeld has done all he wants to do with clubs and fancies a national side next. He actually released quotes to that effect last week, so id assume thats what the independant are talking about, although you can never say never, im sure he would fancy the premiership if not us. He would also fit in perfectly at this time... http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=546079 Houllier is a cracking manager, but not an attacking one, I dont see him being a popular choice here, there is no charisma. Given time and support he would build us a formidible team imo. Starting at the back, we would be slick and very technical, not too dissimilar to Svens Man City. I would be suprised if he was Ashleys choice though. -
dont really want hughes, would be just as unhappy as if we had appointed rednapp. Is younger and has more potential than Rednapp, but really hasnt done anything to really impress me. Coppell, jewell, moyes, Coleman, mclaren, curbishley the list goes on, even roeder have put decent runs and decent attacking looking sides together. Average manager and not what or who I want to see try to take us forward. We could get worse, mclaren is still lurking but I refuse to believe we cant get a hell of a lot better.

didnt want to split into a new thread, but a decent read from the telegraph. Whilst Ashley probably wont read it, im sure Mort will http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/main.jhtml;jsessionid=O0PU213JLEGQXQFIQMFCFF4AVCBQYIV0?view=DETAILS&grid=A1YourView&xml=/sport/2008/01/13/sfnpad113.xml 2nd page is a better read than the first.

Amen. your preaching to the converted though. its ashley that needs the epithany.

We will forget all about this when mclaren is appointed
