This... and he would flop horribly, not to mention get injured immediatley!

SJH wanted Bobby Robson when Keegan left but Doug Hall and Fat Fred persuaded him Dalglish was the better choice. He's not about to tell the Chairman who to appoint after resigning the duty himself. That and SBR turning us down. Dalglish had a thankless task rebuilding the academy and reserves, balls up the first team mind!

Has Swansea playing some really nice football and has had the golden touch there. Would be a bold move if we went for him, if we did I would certainly hope we gave him someone with experience to consult or work with, fair enough he has come up smelling of roses so far but how is he going to cope if we are fighting relegation and morale is low or we go on a long losing streak? People would soon rip him apart. Naturally there are many positives to appointing a young and succesful coach but it can easily be flipped around. Is it a risk the club will take given the fragile state its in now and probably still will be for another year or so, I dont think so. I wouldnt.

Scott Parker signs for West Ham - £6.5m (+£500k) fee confirmed

Was disapointed we let him go tbh, putting him back to dm alongside barton would have been good. We needed income though. -
Hughton and Calderwood 'will continue to take charge of first team'
toontownman replied to jimmymag's topic in Football
Fair enough they could have said something, but its pretty obvious we will just sit tight at the moment and see how Joe recovers over the weekend. Calderwood and Hughton are in temporary charge thats hardly anything new. Things will be clearer this time next week, if not before. However I really dont like this wait and see "gamble" approach with our current coaches, if things didnt go well for the first few games with them in charge we could find ourselves in real trouble regardless of who we bring in to try and diffuse the situation. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/newcastle-delay-decision-on-manager-1607078.html tin hat on but I wouldnt mind seeing Gus Poyet added to the staff (not in charge) We need one more regardless of it being a manager/coach. -

We just cant go with Calderwood and Hughton. At the very least we need another experienced coach in the mix. We were short on coaches even with JFK here. We really arent in a position to "take a gamble" and hope it works, FFS put your hand in your pocket Mike, stop being so fucking cheap and bring in someone that has the experience and qualifications to keep us up. Venables isnt that man for me, but he would probably be better than just Calderwood and Hughton. -
If you head down to the training ground in the morning you might wake up David O'Leary, he sleeps in George Graham's arms waiting outside the gates in hope. ...you might laugh but Gus Poyet has been sitting in a hotel room across the way waiting for the phone to ring for six months with Dennis on the other end.

If this is true, than I wish all the best for Joe and his family. Have to feel for someone and their family having to go through that. And again if this is true - the man needs to leave management, better his health and spend time with his family. There is not one good reason for him to be working in football with this sort of health. On the Newcastle side, if this is true - he has to go, Ashley/Llambas need to quickly appoint a caretaker in the form of Hughton/Calderwood or Wise. This completely, get well soon Joe. I'd like to think we could offer him some kind of involvement if he gets a bit fitter, I wouldnt rule a return out just yet though, he doesnt seem like the type to let go easily. If it is that he will be stepping down we should without a doubt be trying to up Pompeys offer for Sven, like Hiddink could do the role until the end of the season at least.

Venables was a fine coach, capable of doing a fine job previously. Having turned down the job via The Sun last time round I doubt he'll be offered the job again. I agree - Venables would have done a better job than Kinnear and I DON'T think he would have taken the club down. He has great experience working with foreign players too, and that would be invaluable because he would command respect from them. He IS a good coach and that is something the club desperately needs. He MIGHT take the job if it was offered on, say, a 2 year deal or even 18 months, but I reckon he would have some hard questions for Ashley & Co about signing/choosing players, questions they might not like..! Unless we go for a promising young manager as a long-term appt., we will be lucky to get an experienced manager with Venables' credentials because no-one wants the job. If he has no dealings with money matters and Wise is dealing with the transfers for the most part, he might not be bad, like you say he isnt a bad coach. Its been a long time since he was producing the goods though. He did ok at the smogs but hardly set the world alight, then became known as the worst ever manager of Leeds with a more talented squad than his predecessors had and arguable a more talented squad than we have now. He would be as much as a gamble as anyone though up here. One thing is certain the Newcastle job has no respect for previous success or achievments. -

Venables would take us down. have zero confidence in him, that said i rated kinnear worse! -
What's that based on? His un-questionably superior club experience and acheivements im guessing. Dont know how they will a) afford his wages or b) how succesfull he will be working on a shoestring budget. He would be a very decent appointment for them though, would be a decent appointment for us too!
-
Dont know enough about him to debate but I would be suprised if we went for someone outside the top leagues. Ashley already has the majority of fans on his back, the pressure (should JFK go) will be huge for a decent appointment and I think he will be looking for someone big. Someone will take a gamble on him soon enough though if he keeps getting the right results.
-
This. He needs a rocket up his arse before every game and at half time. He has the talent but just enjoys the comfort zone.

Would be happy with Curbs until the end of the season. I think we can do alot better though even now, but waiting until the season ends would be best. Scolari was always going to be a risk, he had been away from club management a long time and lots has changed, I wouldnt turn my nose up at him coming here but it would be nice if he bothered to learn English. Will undoubtedly get linked to alot of Spanish names again. Everything comes down to the test results and what the specialist tells JFK tmrw. If he is told to step down at least it has come at a good time with the two week break now. http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/feb/09/kinnear-hospital-return-newcastle -
Love this thread. Its even better because we are just as bad but now we beat West Brom its back to being world beaters! With the flake of a back line we have dont be suprised to see the Spurs fans laughing at us at the end of the season as they have every chance of staying up and as much as the both of us have every chance of going down.

Avram grant nailed on. That said, I quote the exact same thing when Rednapp left. Curbs would be a decent choice too. Both would turn them around.

Javier Aguirre lined up to replace Joe Kinnear Shocker
toontownman replied to biggs's topic in Football
If there is any truth in our interest in Aguirre and Kinnear is walking a tight health line it would be good to bring him in as a coach anyway. That way he can settle into life here and get a less pressurised start. If the invevitable happens and Kinnear somehow gets appointed full time he can move on to another club or stay on the staff. If not maybe Kinnear can stay on to assist in a less pressurised role and Aguirre can step up. Wishfull thinking really, not likely Aguirre would be interest as acting as a interim coach, but would be a good move for him if he is serious about Managing over here if only for experience. Would certainly have me a little bit more confident having an experienced coach and manager there if kinnear gets hospitalised again. -
Agree, but only one of those two is likely to be here next season. The transfer team have been trying to offload Barton for over a year now.
-
This. As much as I'd like to put it down to a lack of fitness he never seems arsed. Kinnear did get him playing a few months ago, maybe he can send another rocket up his arse, looks like he needs it. As for his effectiveness yesterday, he was aided hugely by the ineptitude of the West Brom defenders. Despite ambling around and being careless in posession his physical presence was a constant threat. Looks like now the contract is sorted he is back in the comfort zone. Lets hope Viduka strikes is lucky and manages to stay fit for more than 2 games in a row.

Sunday Sun: Reckons we have made a third party in Spain aware we may want Javier Aguirre to takeover as gaffer in the summer. His wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Javier_Aguirre Will have to see how Joe gets on this week, more than possible role for him as he is both available and interested in coming to the premier league.

if we build it Houllier will come. -
He was the only player in our defence trying to make decisive passes and made quite a few excellent ones to our front players, as well as some nice short passing. He got some wrong as well, but s*** passing? Also can't remember him losing all these physical challenges. His positioning in the first half was woeful, Bassong nearly ripped him a new arsehole 3 times. Overall he pulled a decent performance off, was better in the second, gets far too easily sucked into the centre, between him and duff there was always at least one person free down that left side.

Get well soon Joe. I do agree with Ian56 though, Joe has to really seriously start thinking about things. At the very least we should be bringing another coach in if we can, I dont have any faith in Hughton or Calderwood to hold the fort if he needs any treatment. -
Looked great today, wouldnt mind us going back to 4-3-3 tbh.
