I am not sure we can give him another chance. Do we really want to go through all this again. Look at the shit over the Nasri thing and he didn't do anything but win a tough tackle fairly. If he so much as looks at someone wrong he will draw bad media attention. We waited a long time for Bowyer to come good and it never happen, I think we should just leave it now, its dissapointing because by far he is our best midfielder.
-
I was surprise at just how slow he was, he just seems really sluggish. I think he would benefit with having someone with a bit more legs beside him. Say someone like Joey Barton (oh yeah he pissed on his and our chips). He did get in to some areas and broke play up a bit at times. I have had enough of giving player chances at this club we seem to hold on to that notion for too long, but there are other players I would like to see out of the door before him.

I think we already knew that Harper is a good keeper but not in the same league as Given. As a back up keeper he is great to have but as a main man I don't think he's our long term answer. Not sure if Krul or Forster are ready to step up yet, but who knows.

I think he deserves an extension to his contract. He has look decent at times for us, would be good to get a good pre-season under the belt for us. Compared to some of the mugs in our team he's probably on relatively low wages and didn't cost us a penny in transfer fees, I think the club would be daft not to give him at least a year extension, I would personally give him another 2.

Michael Owen - Would you be disappointed if he stayed?
Tisd09 replied to Liam Liam Liam O's topic in Football
I am pretty sure at a new club he will do well and then everyone will be saying that Newcastle as a club brought him down and now he's moved away the "real" Mickey Owen is back. I don't care if he does well with another club right now, he just isn't working for us for whatever reason. I was over the moon when he signed even though it was a fortune. A lot of outsiders feel sorry for Owen but it was his choice, he was so desperate to leave Madrid that he chose us and got paid a fortune for it, there is nothing to feel sorry about. He has been unlucky with injurys, the one at Spurs springs to mind and the one for England, you cannot account for that, they were not niggly injuries either. I want rid of him now, I am sick and tired of waiting for players to come good at this club. He's been shit for us, okay lets move on. I really hope Loven starts with the Duke against Fulham, can't see that happening though, then again I couldn't see him being dropped v Liverpool. I don't think we can risk starting Oba given his injuries, I am happy for him to be an impact player from the bench. -
Burley is a twat. He said it would have been interesting to hear the crowds reaction if any other manager took off Owen at that stage. I sure many of us didn't bat an eyelid...

Never in doubt... :colo:

I am "enjoying" this game like you kinda enjoy brain freeze. I am cacking it every time Boro are near our area, we just look like we may give them another goal. Its shocking how crap both teams are at times. They do look even crapper than us though.
-
I have got no issue with the away goal rule in Europe. But I don't think it should be the case in the Carling Cup Semi Finals. I have no logic behind my opinion just think it would be better that way. In the example of Spurs/Burnley I don't think it would have changed the attitude of either team except for Spurs when they got the late goal to draw level, instead of sitting back they may have attempted looking for another goal that would see them through rather than pens, and in Burnleys case they wouldn't have had to go looking for another goal and could have settled for Pens.

As a club we can't win. Alot of the media and other fans were calling for a morale call from Newcastle and sack him after the court case stuff. Now we take the morale high ground the manager condemns the player for being a dickhead on the pitch yet we are still in the wrong. As for the Times article, just because Shearer kicked Lennon and got away with it he can't criticise anyone else for bad challenges no more?
-
Someone posted about the Cousin challenge earlier on, but it was missed because of the goal not long after, buit the commentators didn't even raise an eyebrow about it. It was two footed and missed the ball, as much as I think Joey's red card was fair surely at very least that challenge deserved to be condemned. I mentioned it in another thread and maybe I am a bit paranoid but I get the feeling that the media would love it if we went down love it.
-
I think so. Basically its more of a story for the media if we are in the shit rather than Boro?
-
In a better team I think he would look far better but he has just cracked under the pressure. Enrique struggled at 1st though and he has come fairly good. I remember an interview where he said he had to adapt his game after he left Villareal, he was used to attacking alot with them as they were one of the better teams in the league. I wouldn't knock Colo on the head just yet. If Taylor was fit I would "rest" Colo for the remaining games, but I'd be confident with a better midfield in front of him offering more protection he would look better than he has done this season, whether that is good enough remains to be seen, maybe his style is just not suited to the Premiership. Unlike Boumsong, Colo is proven in a top league Boummong was just crap.
-
Is it just me, or does the media seem to want Boro to survive and don't give a shit about us or do I have some kind of "everyone is against us paranoia". Both teams will see this as winable and both will think they are down with a loss. A point will be it for both I think. Still can't believe this is happening. I just keep on expecting something to happen that will see us out of this mess, but nothing does happen.

Shearer has every right to be fucked off. I would agree that Barton doesn't deserve to be hung out to dry if this was a one off offence, but how many chances has he had. I am not a Barton hater either, I was all for another chance then he slaps us in the face. Someone said Shearer shouldn't have played him anyway because we had no chance. He needs match practice, a whole game would have done him a world of good for the Boro game. Looking at the incident again I don't think that Alonso was as badly hurt as made out but that doesn't matter, it was a reckless challenge made with 2 feet off the ground, whether other people get away with it is irrelevant, yes it pisses you off but its his own fault in away. IMO he has pissed on his chips for us now, and I for one think he has had enough chances. If he goes somewhere else and does well so be it, but we cannot afford to have such a loose cannon in our ranks given our position no matter how shite the rest of the midfield are.
-
I am thinking maybe going back to 4-4-2 for this one. GK. Harper RB. Beye LB. Duff CB. Taylor (If Fit) CB. Bassong RM. Smith CM. Butt CM. Guthrie LM. Jonas CF. Martins CF. Viduka RM was a difficult choice, Taylor has been dogpoo, Geremi has a lack of pace and games and while Smith has been better than in the past for us it is hardly an endorsement, the other option is Lovenkrands on the left with Jonas right but Loven did look sluggish today and maybe a good impact player to bring on anyway. At the moment I think Colo's confidence is shot moreso than most so I would spare him for such and important game. A fully functioning Colo always plays ahead of Taylor for me but I think Taylor would offer us more given the situation.
-
At first I tried to convince myself that it was harsh as he touched the ball, but it was a reckless challenge, he put the other man in danger and there was more intent in hitting Alonso that the ball IMO. That kind of challege is a red card offense whether they take the ball or not. He had to go. What a fool, how many chances has he had now? If Shearer does stay I don't think Barton will after that. Gutted, I thought at times he used the ball well and looked sharpish considering the lack of playing time this season. But fuck him, hes gone now lets get behind the players that we have a available, if we can't beat Boro next week at home then we don't deserve to be in the Premiership. Hopefully Shearer wil keep his bottle and keep Owen on the bench.
-
I think had Enrique not got injured you may have seen Barton come on later in the match, I can understand Shearer not using him on Monday. I hope he has 20/30 minutes against Liverpool on Sunday. Chances are that we won't pick anything up on the weekend so there is no need to rush him back, hopefully the 20/30 minutes will put him in a postion so he can start against Boro. I think he is our best midfielder and it is a shame he got injured again this season, I really think a on form Barton can boost our midfield alot, but due to bad luck and stupid personal decisions from him we have not had chance to see his best.
-
I just feel numb, my neighbours are lucky that I have a sleeping baby upstairs, I actually found hair on the floor from me pulling it out. So many poor decisions by our players. Why didn't Owen leather that chance put your foot through it man.
-
Burley full stop grates like fuck, hate the guy... Yeah and to hear Burley saying he's the best player on the pitch grates like f***
-
If Nicky Butt could pass further than 6 yards in this match he would be having a decent game, liked his tackle anything that moves near the end of the half. Game is there for the taking. Come on lads.......

If someone does have a direct email address or phone number for the club shop please can you PM them to me.

Not EVERYTHING Super Nile hasn't been given his shot yet!!! On a serious note I think Barton could add quality, I would start him, surely in an hour we could get more out of him than Nolan and Butt put together. Plus and hour starting would be of far better benefit than him coming on for the last 20 mins.
