    Given's Return

Don't care too much. He screwed the club, but lots of players do and he gave reasonable service beforehand. I never expected anything of him as a man - never deserved the credit he originally got. He always wanted to look after himself, which is normal behaviour - only special players dont, and I never thought he was one.

    Zola sacked

Yeah, but that's just quoting a 'boardroom source' i.e. Llambias. There were plenty of quotes from managers like Alex Ferguson sympathising with Keegan's position and saying they would have done the same as him, as well as the LMA coming out in his support after hearing evidence. There was plenty of Caulkin-esque stuff going around too among the usual journalist blather. Furthermore, Ashley's regime hadn't been proven to be profoundly retarded YET, unlike West Ham's who managed it before they even owned that particular club.

    Zola sacked

I definitely can, to be fair.

    Club statement

There's still no money for transfers. If he's confirmed he's taking none out then presumably any additional money generated increases the chances of that not being the case. Something for those talking of boycotting again to think about? They have of course 'confirmed' a lot of things in their time, such as when they confirmed they had a policy of deliberately lying to interested parties. It's interesting that they've made this new statement, but still... 'confirmed'.

    Club statement

Surely someone - read Llambias - deserves sacking for the way the club without fail manages to only kick off shit storms whenever it attempts to communicate. I mean seriously, is there nothing this incompetent can't fuck up?
  6. Conceivably worse for 3rd placed who'd lose some momentum? Interesting idea, though.
  7. Two years rolling would demonstrate more confidence and be worth the investment, in my view. One year always seems extremely subject to interpretatio. - If we're doing obviously well, it's seen as 'permanent', but if things look even slightly jittery it becomes 'well he'd be easy to sack, that's why they gave him that contract...'. That scenario reduces a manager's authority in itself and makes things harder to turn around.
  8. Funny thing is the one thing board are really good at now is making sure the press have no clue who or when we'll be buying someone. Always a surprise, for better or for worse.
  9. Proof we prefer bad news.
  10. And just to re-assert, it shouldn't be forgotten how shoddily he was treated over the original Villa move which prompted that new contract being signed. By all accounts, it was a very cheap contract by any normal footballing standards, too.

    José Mourinho

I agree with something along these lines. Why many Chairmen seem to think it's the area of the club you spend the least on I have no idea.
  12. Village Idiot demonstrating my point that we need actual real foreigners to tell us what a DoF does because we haven't got a clue.
  13. Typical crying fat cockneys...

    The 'Superfan'

On the downside, you're only ever going to see what the camera focuses upon. It's all the little things which add up to be hugely significant which a tv viewer misses out on. Insights like seeing some bastard dawdling about just because the ball's 40 yards away - better players are still very much in the game at that distance; not something easily detectable on tv, though.
  15. brummie, do you think O'Neill is capable of getting you to the next level, ie the top 4. Just seems he'll never have a better chance than this year. No. He's too limited tactically, and his transfer market approach is weird beyond belief. He can keep us top 6 or 7 with his eyes closed, not even trying, but he won't take us any further than that. He's an infuriating man. See today, the crowd see Delfouneso and Luke Young warming up, looking like they're coming on, start cheering ironically (Cuellar at RB and Heskey anywhere are subjects of some discussion), so he changed his mind and puts Albrighton on instead, just to remind us who is boss. He's infuriating at times, like I said. No chance of him leaving, though? No. Not until he decides he's had enough. To be honest, though, he's always had an uneasy relationship with sections of the support, which would surprise most neutral observers. Really tempted to do a Ronaldo...
  16. Yes, that's probably the best one so far. Just wiki'd to find out if he was Jewish. http://www.prostars.co.uk/localimages/players/large/401.jpg Has never even made it past Berwick.
  17. Silkman's lying scum. Better off dead. His word's worthless.
  18. Having spent a fair while around there, I see more of our colours than I do any other outside the Old Firm. I possibly even see more of us than Hibs or Hearts in Edinburgh specifically - central Edinburgh, at least... Probably tourists, to be fair...
  19. Is he speaking as Ashley's offical PR man or as an individual? I was going to say I can't believe Ashley would be daft enough to hire a twat like Clifford but sadly I can. He never speaks as an individual, there's always a reason for him saying something. I hate Max Clifford with a passion, but I have to grudgingly admit that he's very, very successful at what he does. If he has hired him then from his point of view it could well turn out to be the best decision he's made so far since taking over the club. One thing's for certain, if Clifford's now involved we won't see any more of those amateurish and self-defeating press releases we've grown accustomed to. Frankly I wouldn't mind - a few less of those press releases and we might not have been such an utter shambles. Of course, that only sounds good until you realise it's not just Ashley/Llambias' mouths that are the problem - the brains that lay behind them are a far bigger issue.
  20. Saw this and wondered why the hell they were buying him.

    Players in public

maybe they didn't speak at all mind Hahaha. I like that kind of humour.
  22. IIRC, he said pretty much what he said here a few years back - injuries meant he the clock was already ticking for him.
