I can understand if people think he's an asset who could be sold, you could argue he's not the finished article and we can use the money to buy just that. But we paid £20m+ for him, are we going to make a profit after a season out injured? Would surely make sense to hope he comes back all guns blazing after a summer's recuperation and hope his value shoots back up again, even if we do want to upgrade at some point.
-
Most of the fees that get thrown around are stupid.
-
Wish I could believe we were getting £15m for a 34 year old but it sounds like the optimistic talk of getting £60m for Maxi last year.
-
Why is that? He's still very young, and I would have thought selling him now would make the least amount of sense since his value will have gone down due to missing a season through injury. What would be the point of selling?
-
Why, does he have a history of long term injuries? Was it not just one really bad season last year?
-
Depends what their value would likely be if they weren't out of contract.

Jumpin_Gun_Jack would be the obvious rename. The name says it all.

Bad day for @Jack27 threads, an already shaky reputation taking a pummelling over the last 48hrs. Can the optimistic transfer believer survive the summer or will he need to reincarnate and make a fresh start next season incognito? Maybe as the mysterious Jack28?

Yep that was my feeling as well. Feels like Tosin's agent is trying to hawk him around for the best deal.

IIRC Levy came in for a lot of criticism investing all their money on the stadium instead of the squad, but to be fair it will put them in good stead going forward. Their penny pinching days should theoretically be behind them. But I think it's part of his make up, Levy isn't the type who will buy blue chip shares if he thinks he can score big buying penny shares instead.

The we would probably have wanted Spors even if Freedman had agreed to come. From what I read his role is more of an organiser than a scout, so he would do more of the work the garden gnome was hired for.
-
Aren't we after two people for different roles?

It's why I still consider this to be a transfer rumour, I could well imagine Man U coming in and and him ending up going there. He's a free agent, daft to think this is all done and dusted when there will be other interested parties. Until the cartel stranglehold is broken, they will always have the pulling power if they really want a player, and can't really blame the player if he chooses one of them over us right now.
-
I hope he does, maybe Bayern hired him on the basis of what he did at Anderlecht to be fair. I just think Burnley must think they won the lottery getting £10.8m for a manager after they have got relegated. Bayern just seem to be throwing money at everything and hoping it works.
-
I wish him well but it seems absolutely staggering that Bayern paid nearly £11m to Burnley for the services of Kompany. If he was out of work and they picked him up for free it would still be a head scratcher but £11m?
-
He looked awful yesterday.
-
Don't Chelsea already have a plethora of central defenders they brought in last year? If he was going to pick out of those two the Man U move would make more sense.

Very difficult to say much about next season until we can see how being out of Europe affects our transfer strategy. If Bruno and Isak stay, and we can sign Tosin and Kelly on frees, then potentially we could really build a strong squad to have a real tilt at CL next season. If one of those two leave, then it would be a big loss, but at the same time, the money could maybe buy two really top players so could still end up being a very strong squad.
-
That was my benchmark for this season more or less.

Maybe I just get premonitions then. I had a bad feeling when we played them despite everyone calling them shite. When everyone was saying they would be deflated after announcing their manager was getting canned before the cup final, had a bad feeling about that as well. Anyway, I can't be arsed dwelling on their luck, after a season you end up where you end up.
-
Agree, we aren't doing ourselves any favours by keep calling them shite or jammy. They've been poor by their standards, but they have stepped up in a few big games as well.
-
I think that will always be the minimum target under this ownership, but we'll need to have a much stronger bench next time round to have any chance of competing for it.
-
It just shows how far back we were starting tbh. When we lost at their place, their homegrown players were Mainoo and Dialo, ours were Andersen and Longstaff. It showed.

You've just given me a reason to find a positive in this season after all. Thanks!
