The Euro 2008 thread: Spain are European champions

Doesn't Löws Germany play a bit like Keegans Newcastle? Podolski in the Martins role, Gomez(who has been incredibly shit so far) as Viduka and then Klose dropping back to provide a link like Michael Owen... Really impressed with Croatia. Darijo Srna would be a very good player for any Premiership team, can't believe he's still at Shakhtar. Corluka had a fantastic first half too. -

Henrik Larsson AND Niclas Alexandersson are both starting today. They're both 37. Also, Källström is on the bench, Lagerbäck is starting Daniel Andersson, younger brother of Patrik Andersson(former Bayern München and Barcelona)...this guy is one of the worst midfielders in the history of man kind. -

Strange decision by Hiddink to play Zhirkov as left back and leave Ignasevich and the Berezutsky brothers out of the team. If there was any team in this group he should have gone for a more defensive line-up against, it would be Spain. Sweden starting with 36 -year old Henrik Larsson and 37 -year old Alexandersson against Greece today. Harsh on Elmander and Seb Larsson. Källström is on the bench to..People over here are furious. -

I think Orlando Engelaar was a very big suprise, played excellent. And the Italian back four is shit..should be some game against France though. -
i haven't but that's a fantastic name. swiss david beckham ... sounds interesting I remember him from the 2006 WC, so he's not 19(edit: he just turned 23). Was a big article on him in a Swedish paper, and he seems to be a very talented footballer. Also looks very good on YouTube.

Would be a great signing for Hull or Stoke etc.

Oba's against Tottenham last season, Ginolas against Ferencvaros and this: http://wwwc.aftonbladet.se/nyheter/0406/24/NYHETER-24s07-EM-23_368.jpg

Remember when he and Nadal headed into eachother when Bellamy equalised against Mallorca in 2003/04. Otherwise, a fantastic character. One of the most "no-nonsense" type of players I've seen.

Doubt it. The f***-wit of a manager will go for Ljunberg and Wilhelmsson on the flanks, and should Ljungberg be injured I can well see Alexanderson playing, as the "experience" is so important for him. Mind, as all I want for the Euros is for Sweden to f*** up as much as possible, this scenario would do me. Why? Because of the winless England vs Sweden run? Larsson will start to the right and Ljungberg to the left. I'd like to see him here. Wonderful free kicks and a solid player who can pass the ball, something that not too many of our players are familiar with. Still think we could find someone better, if we are to replace Geremi. I thought Larsson was left footed? No he's not. About Lagerbäck, very underrated. 5th big tournament in a row for a country like Sweden is amazing. Whatever his methods are, it's clearly working. Our squad this time around isn't as good as it was in 2004 when we went out after penalties against Holland in a game we should have won, but his selections are probably more accurate than they seem to be. I think he'll use Wilhelmsson or Larsson to the right, and Mikael Nilsson(former Southampton) or Alexandersson as right back. Whats Tobias Linderoths reputation in England after his spell at Everton and his showings against England? -

Can't believe Boumsong got in their squad for the Euro 2008 ahead of Mexes.

Real Madrid want Vargas too .. I've seen him play some very good games. Same age as Enrique so would be a strange player to pay a lot of money for.
-
Played for Lille in the Champions League etc. up until last season. I think Lyon fiught hard to get him and that he is one of Ligue 1's most highly rated players. Probably stiff competition from Källström, Juninho, Toulalan etc. in Lyon though.

It says today in a Swedish newspaper that we've been watching a U21 player called Rasmus Bengtsson(Trelleborg) on several occasions and that we're supposed to be watching him yet again when the U21s play this week. Don't know much about him but he's 21 and hasn't made himself a very big name in football yet. I hear he's regarded as one of the top centre half prospects in this country though. Maybe someone else from Sweden can fill me in...

I think Huntelaar will be the top scorer. He's desperate to prove that he's capable of producing at this level. Given his chance, he'll score and I think Holland might well go all the way. -
Drogba showed a lack of experience tbh, and I would imagine many of the Chelsea players are disappointed at his behaviour. Also feel very, very sorry for Terry who seems to be a great proffessional and had absolutley no luck striking that penalty. Btw, this must have been at least the tenth time I see Ronaldo crying, and he's only 22.

Can't believe Henrik Larsson agreed to play again, but it's nothing but good news for Sweden. Should be interesting to see Seb Larsson perform on this stage for the first time. I think our midfield and attack can get us far, but we'll probably get knocked out by Spain and Russia due to the fact that we have NO defenders capable to shut their offensive out for 90 mins. Mellberg is the best of the lot, and he's not that good these days, and the one decent left back we have, Erik Edman, is missing out because of injury. And then there's Isaksson who hasn't played all season. -
Will need a lot more than one good signing to get up to their past standards. Of course, but in Trezeguet, Chiellini, Buffon, Andrade and the resurgence of Sissoko they have a pretty decent group of players to start off with. Will be interesting to see Sebastian Giovinco there next season, he's been superb for Empoli this year.
-
Don't know why, but that sounds like a Spurs kind of deal. Most likely to be Arsenal though.
-
Palermo have confirmed that Amauri is joining Juventus. Very good signing. They will become a major force in Europe next season..
-
Was Bramble 4.5 or 5? Robert Jenas and Woodgate if we're talking january too...
-
Someone here mentioned that Ibra isn't a world class player. He surely is imo. If he's not then there cant be too many world class players around. Those who say he isn't haven't seen much of him or they dont know that much about football as they think they do.. That's why I asked the question. Just look at the importance of his presence for Inter this season... But I'd like to hear the opinion of someone who doesn't think he's up there with the best.
-
How would people on here compare someone like Rooney or Owen to Ibrahimovic in terms of "being a world class player"?
-
Ibrahimovic really proved his worth today. Should be looking to move in the summer instead of being surrounded by Cruz etc. Barcelona and Man Utd would be ideal for him. I think Real Madrid are long time admirers of him too.. Luca Cigarini and Dessena are both great talents. Would be good signings.
-
Vucinic goal was fantastic. Some player... Really hope Parma stay up and Roma win the title. Inter haven't been good enough since they lost Ibrahimovic to injury and now they're paying for it. Btw. Vargas, left back, Catania, supposed to be on his way to Real Madrid. Really good on his day and has scored a few belters this season..
