Just watched the Canadian highlights show on Fubu - his finished got raved about on there, particularly by Owen Hargreaves.

I think if he stays fit til November he'll go to the World Cup.

I can't even really figure out how he's done it - for him to put it where he has, with his right foot facing the way it is. Class - I thought it must be a deflection when I saw in real time.

I end up wondering if players like Dubravka are faking it. -

Really dominant in attack but hardly know Wilson is playing. Don't know if he could be doing better with movement or if we're just not getting it to him. -

Given a squad number... -
Yeah, 'field hockey' is just called 'hockey' in the UK (rest of Europe too? Apart from maybe where ice hockey particularly big)- it's the standard form of hockey.
-
I don't think people necessary misunderstand the original meaning in 96 , I think the meaning has just evolved - particularly since 'it's coming home' became a sort of meme for England's hope of winning the Euros last year.

Warren Barton (I think) recently pointed out that you can hear Shearer call for it from Lee - at about 5/6 seconds you hear a shout, which is Shearer calling Lee by his nickname (I forget what it was, I hadn't heard of it before Barton mentioned. Scooty or something?)

Could've answered differently last time this thread was on the go, but I think probably Dabizas at the mackems. The age I was at the time (12) we'd only beaten the mackems once in my memory and it was the game at Roker with no away fans. I'd been to all the other ones since then home and away and was absolutely desperate for us to win at the Stadium of Light, those trips then were so special, especially as they'd been in a different division a of that period. For that game I was in the second row right behind the goal he put it in. Things just went mental man, on and off the pitch, it was so glorious. Add to that it was actually an important game as we chased Champions League football - or maybe even a sneaky go at the title still at that stage of the season.

Definitely sounds to me like he's a geordie who's spent a while living down south. It's a weird mix.

And Atlanta's most famous person surely, MLK, has an honourary degree from Newcastle Uni.
-
I never heard it growing up in Newcastle (born 89) that I can remember - first I probably heard of it was on this board.
-
That end of season video commentary was recorded after the fact? That's devastated me.
-
Ooooh, Atlanta player's squad numbers. I see now. Got a 'character' on our hands I see...

As CEO is he going to be the face of the club on the corporate side, largely replacing Stavely as a voice, the one we're calling for to sack our managers?

Why do some games just have a special atmosphere?

I remember there was something special at the Arsenal 4-4. I remember really feeling like we had a good chance of doing it, even at 4-1, 4-2. In that case I think a lot of it came from Joey Barton and Kevin Nolan in particular, and spread to the crowd.
