  1. Overheard a great nostalgic conversation on a bus between 2 old timers the other day. They mentioned the "10 minute flag". Anyone remember that? I was just a bairn but iirc it was an NUFC flag in the Gallowgate corner taken down 10 mins from the end of home games? Some would leave on that signal but as a kid i can remember going in for the end of games when the gates opened to let people out.
  2. Aye, true. We were victims of a similar change with the Everton game. Still trying to recoup train money. No way should games be moved once they've announced the tv picks. Having said that it will be nice to watch Mitro tear them apart.
  3. "So our hero is a paedo and we're in division 3" Best quote I've read for a while Goes well to the tune of Yellow Submarine. Another verse of the 'Going down, staying up' song maybe?
  4. I'd like to see that again. I was up the other end but thought he used his knee. I'm no ref but think knee's ok but dunno about shins?
  5. Had catchphrase on earlier. Makem contestant was asked where he was from. Presenter Stephen Mulhern asked what Sunderland was like as he'd never been. Answer: Better than Newcastle.
  6. The place went mental after that David Kelly winner v Portsmouth. Mega important goal. KKs goal v QPR on his debut was fantastic. The stuff of dreams seeing such a superstar playing for OUR club.
  7. The atmosphere at the end of the 96/97 season when we qualified for the CL after humping Forest and they, and Boro, went down. f***ing class. Fantastic day. Seems like only yesterday. IIRC a couple of games ran on after ours had finished, makems away at wimbledon, Coventry away at Spurs and liverpools game. One by one each result fell gloriously into place. Dreamland!
  8. Hull and Barnsley with a game in hand, against each other tomorrow night. One or both of the teams immediately above the drop zone guaranteed points. Excellent.
  9. Looking at those fixtures I reckon WBA and Stoke will go. Hard to call the last place but Brighton have awful fixtures. Interesting that it's stoke v palace and stoke v Swansea last 2 games of season.
  10. I always think along those lines. Average a point a game and it SHOULD keep you up.
  11. Depends. My first payment was July and my last payment for this season comes out tonorrow. Think they've taken the last payment for this season on the 1st of this month so 1st payment for next season should be March. Never been so close to chucking it, with a growing feeling of going through the motions as i turn up for games. As has been said above it would be typical of my luck if i binned it and the takeover happened. I'm hanging onto the words off KKs' banner quote from the other night.
  12. 1st payment in Feb or March?
  13. The 381 fans they took to Gateshead were more indicitave of their real support so while they're entitled to enjoy their day out, I for one won't be in awe of their 'magnificent' support this weekend.
  14. That's like saying Bournemouth/Brighton/Huddersfield only just beat us as they were all by the odd goal. The important thing is the win and not how comfortable it was.
  15. Was great hearing the angry makems on radio Newcastle after the games today knowing the toon had another 3 pts safely gathered. Delicious start to the year ☺.
  16. Maybe not. Seems too good to be true, but they are in real danger and are as likely as we are to go down I reckon.
  17. Predicted they'd bring a few more big game daytrippers but wasn't expecting 7K+.
  18. Thankfully they've stopped the dry train thing for now. Transport police were on board and were called to one of the carriages on our train back last night. There was also an announcement to stop people smoking from the windows of the train doors at one of the stations.
  19. Was one of my favourite footballing moments of the last 10 years tbf Must admit to feeling more relieved at that goal than anything else. Was worried after they led at HT.
  20. Aye. Ultimately we won nowt, but they must have been caking it for over half of that decade of so many near misses. There was THAT season when we nearly won the league and then a couple of fa cup finals followed by a semi final. Not to mention regular top 6 finishes. Something they're yet to experience in the premier league btw.
  21. He simply can't think hanging on to the club and running the risk of another relegation can be financially beneficial surely. Worryingly i get the impression with him that he'd rather lose money than let someone get the upper hand over him.
  22. They had 381 fans at Gateshead. Probably be about 3000 at st James. 'You've only come to see Newcastle!'
  23. They're doing well in their league but I watched them at Gateshead yesterday and they were very lucky to break Gateshead down after 40 mins. Play should have been stopped after a nasty collision. Gateshead were still in the game until Luton 2nd after an hour so we should be ok but this is nufc.
  24. B2B relegation seems too good to be true but a bit of a gap is opening up between them and 4th bottom Brum i see. Gotta be scaring the s**t out of them even if they do get out of it.
  25. Sounding a real statto here but i'm sure i've heard that Forest scraped survival on GD last season with 51 pts. Based on that it'll mean that if, on average, they win every other of their remaining 28 games they'll still only be on 53 pts. A tall order given how they've been so far. Please let them go into oblivion.
