Feel like Iraola would be well suited to our current squad and setup, but in time you'd have the same issues where you have a tired squad with a single game plan based around pressing and no ability to control games. It's a pass from me. I'd rather stick with Howe than get him in.

He's been in the main fantastic for us since Howe came in, but he's rapidly becoming a millstone round his manager's neck IMO. It feels like he's scared to leave him out because he's big and tall and strong at the expense of Ramsey who can actually pass it a bit and is more dynamic. There's been instances this season where he's started 3 games in a week when we've had Miley and/or Ramsey kicking their heels on the bench and by the third game he's looked absolutely knackered and ineffective. It should be the time to sell, but that probably hinges on who the manager is. I can't see Eddie wanting to move him on.

I think that would be fine and accepted by most as long as we saw a real transition to a more controlled style of play and more technical quality featuring. That goes for Eddie or a new manager btw.

Good post this, and you've articulated the bit about him talking about learning but not showing it so much better than I've been able to. On reflection I understand why he's not made radical changes mid-season when there's a lack of training time to work on it, so rather than gamble on an unfamiliar setup he's just doubling down on what he and the players know and hoping that sees us through this season. The bit I'm a mix of interested, worried and keen to see is: after a summer break and then a pre-season to work on things, will we see a fresh approach and more control of games or just more of the same?

I'm right on the fence about Howe staying or going. The most important factor for me will be whether he can move away from his complete obsession with tall lads, athletes and sprinters and build a more cohesive footballing style when given the right time to do so - that being a summer window with the correct structure in place and signs that he's trying to do that as we move into next season. Obviously we need some of the athletic types in the side but we need a balance of warriors and artists and I'm not convinced he wants or likes artists. If he's going to double down on the Track & Field XI and spend more money on runners and battlers who can't kick a ball straight I'd rather he went in the summer, was remembered as a modern day hero and we move onto a manager who can help us actually control games and create chances from a source that isn't just pressing and hoping for a mistake, which is what we've seen for a while now.
