For comparison, this cost about £1bn.

Sounds more like a SJP rebuild to be honest.
-
It’s like trying to get a 1st story extension over your garage for an extra bedroom, and being quoted the price of a new a 5 bed on Tynemouth Broadway.
-
In all honesty, I actually think SJP Metro Station should simply be renamed ‘Newcastle United’, much like the ‘Arsenal’ station on the Underground.

This. In my opinion it needs to be more of a rebuild on the current site with maybe an enlarged footprint. A Gallowgate level 7 is no good. The whole stadium is dated, and we can’t get away with a capacity of 60k, with corporate facilities still lacking. I don’t see how it is possible considering the site constraints, but if it is, then yes go for it.

I don’t know who needs to know this, but the Theatre royal have a play version of the film Purely Belter (Season ticket as the book was called) on until Saturday night. Performances tomorrow, Friday night, Saturday midday, and Saturday evening. Also posted in NWOAT.

I’d also add that it was quite clear that that there were season ticket holders who have been buying an away ticket and selling them on for the past 20-30 years just to build up points, for when a cup final day ever came around. Loads of fans who had been going to all, most, or regular away games off the back of buying someone else’s, or using one of the unofficial busses who sold you a ticket if you got on their bus missed out on going to the final. We all know it was true, but no one wanted to admit. It was either ‘Yes sir, never missed a game home or away since I was 6 years old’, and ‘No sir, never bought a ticket that I shouldn’t have’.

We need Villa and others do well though, if England gets 1 of those extra Champions League places, then it will only help us in our push for a European place.
-
Yeah they were bad, there was just no real power in any of them, and since 3 of them were aimed fairly central at goal, it’s a real risk that they get saved.
-
I’ve got 0 out of 6 so far this season. Some guy on Reddit is claiming that he’s applied to every ballot since the beginning of last season, and only got the Villa match at the beginning of last season. When tickets are this tight to get, there should be no way people who are getting run of 2/3 games successes ahead of others. It really should have some sort of weighting to the ballot.

I’m not so sure. I have subscribed to them, but unless it’s relating to a specific development or project that I’m interested in, I usually just ignore them. They do often do them where the result, or objective is clear, and it seems to be a box ticking exercise.

There isn’t much in the way of anything in the questionnaire. It is basically asking if you use them, how often, how you get there, and if you have an allotment. There is nothing in the way for the future of the parks at all.

On the subject of the cup final, I have to say as someone who was left at home watching on TV, not a pop from the Man Utd fans was heard. It was all our fans, that’s how it came across on TV in anyway. Anyway, I’ve now been unsuccessful in all 6 ballots so far. A Gallowgate extension at SJP simply isn’t enough to satisfy demand for tickets.
-
Yeah, until they build on it, or sell it to developers, then Homes England will always be willing to sell it providing they can get an alternative site for housing.

Club shop does.

Has to be, absolutely has to be.

The oldest tartan in the world, and one of the reasons why the club picked Black & White as colours I believe.

The Castle Leazes option would still make it on top of a hill to so to speak, so if it was high enough, you would still be able to see it from miles out like you can with SJP. You likely wouldn’t be able to see the fans inside like you can with SJP at the moment. The arena site you would see if you come in by train, but it wouldn’t be as visible from around the city centre or further out. Depending on if it was high enough, and had an open or semi-open goal end like NFL stadiums have, then you could potentially see a historic bridge or 2 from inside the stadium.
-
Yeah, to the left of the pond where it says Newcastle upon Tyne is where Castle Leazes is. The arena site is next to a bridge where it says ‘Just Park’.
-
Let’s say a new build is £2bn, and has a minimum capacity of 70k. It is essentially the same price per seat, but you’d get a much better more modern stadium with a new build.
-
If we did move to the arena site, the whole are would be regenerated. No chance any of that area looks like what it is now.
-
I’m going to say this, and it’s going to sound very selfish, but it applies to most of us non-season ticket holders. An expanded SJP of 60k or slightly more capacity doesn’t get me into SJP. So far this season I have applied in 5 ballots, and lost in all of them. Last season I only got a few tickets. Wit demand like it is now, and if we do gain success, as the current owners intend, then demand will increase, it will just not be enough.
-
Thing is a new build could easily have 10,000 more seats in it, and that is without taking into account corporate availability. If you times that by an average ticket price of £50.00, over the course of a season only account for league home games, that is £9.5m. These are very conservative numbers, plus add on what the price of advertising a new build would go for compared to what advertising at SJP would go for, and the backlash to go with it. An extended SJP isn’t going to host many other events either.
-
I can’t help but feel that an expanded Gallowgate end, and new East stand would just be a massive ‘budget’ option. A new build leaves untold possibilities.
