I'd guess PCP/Reuben wanted to go with option 1, which was the strongly worded statement on Tuesday. PIF clearly decided they'd had enough and decided to go with the nuclear option 2 and withdraw, which due to the balance of power, PCP/Reuben had to go along with. PCP and hopefully Reuben are clearly still heavily (emotionally at least) invested in this, the club and the area to a degree. Guess we just need to see how the PL responds (if they do) and if they'll bow to pressure and revisit the consortium structure demands, and/or whether there's and work that can be done behind the scenes to redress the power balance of the consortium, or see if KSA can do anything to appease the PL (unlikely).

Fair play to the number of posters on here who predicted that only to be shot down. I guess it’s proven to be massive naivety on my part but I just didn’t foresee an entity like the PIF walking away in response to something like that. But, if what AS says is correct, the PL wanted KSA not PIF to be named as the majority director, which 'is impossible'. So with the PL refusing to approve or refuse them and with no timescale for any sort of decision, then the uncertainty going on just ends up harming the club and its ongoing plans. If the PL haven't been made formally aware of the withdrawal yet, in theory the tests are still on going. Of course the headlines will have made it back to the PL, and perhaps this will force a dialogue with them asking what is happening. Who knows, perhaps a dialogue + adverse publicity will engineer a way through to suit all parties, and it could be back on. #Clutching

If its true about Ashley being Ashley, and trying to move the goalposts at the last minute again, and renegotiate the price, its unbelievable how can he get away with that, especially with £17m that he can just keep, if they walked away?? Kinda wonder if the buyers legal team have been answering all thd questions (hence their ongoing optimism) but Ashleys legal team had been delaying them getting to the PL, hence them saying the buyers weren't answering everything. The ongojng delay then lets the contractual deadline pass, and Ashley 'does an Ashley'.

Good. And I bet 'Henry' isn't answering his phone to fat Mike anymore, either! Guess we see if Staveley wins her court case with Barclays, then perhaps she and the Reubens may be back on their own. It's clear that neither party has the inclination to out up the money themselves, hence the KSA 80%backing.

I would have thought it was the legal teams dealing with everything, and little need for Ashley to be involved, if a price was agreed so that the PL test started. Surely if its been approved, the next stage would be transfer of funds, which again would all be dealt with by the legals. Struggling to think how Ashley could affect it, now? If he decided to pull out, is it not legally binding at this stage?

But, none of the buyers side have commented on any of the reports / rumours right through this whole thing, have they? Whether it be to refute an incorrect allegation or confirm a positive report? In contrast to the BZG alleged takeover where there were comments from people supposedly linked to it all over, the buying and selling side this time have kept quiet (unbelievably). Only things from KSA have been response to the WTO reports and announcements about tackling IP piracy, which were already issues prior to the takeover.

Forgot we even had Lejeune TBH.

Oooh, CL30 behind C56X, but still on same sort of route. F**k it, I'm in. Hehe

I'm sure its been said during past bids, and companies being set up on CH, that the costs to do so are pretty small. So if he was serious, you could argue it wouldn't hurt to start setting up these 'vehicles' for purchasing the club, given how long this has now dragged on, and the seemingly increasing likelihood that it may fall through. So he was ready to ride in on his white charger with Luke Edwards in tow, and save us from the Miss Staveley and the arrogant, timewasting Saudi's.

As a manager, one of the only times Stevie was loyal to his club, ironically, was when his 'boyhood club' came calling back in 2004.

Just seen the Keys clip on Twitter. Dear me. "Reason it hasn't gone through is PL know they can't allow it to" "PL under pressure from 'other sources' to approve it" (guess he means the UK Gov) "Newcastle may have a new owner, but it wont be the one on the table" (the Saudis) Final throw of the Propaganda dice? Hopefully. I just want an announcement one way or the other now.

Edwards is on one this morning, sticking the boot into 'The Bidders' for the delays. Blaming them for the leaks, yet whilst there was the article in the WSJ, the first 'official' stuff was the companies house documents which are publicly accessible anyway, so nothing PIF/PCP could have done to prevent that 'leak'. He does seem really bitter about these bidders. Henry Mauriss, on the other hand....

Just seen this on twitter... its 11 year today that he made his final public appearance, before the benefit match for his cancer charity. Is that something in my eye?
