Newcastle United 0 - 2 Chelsea - 21/11/20 post match from pg15
ilikenewcastle replied to BlueStar's topic in Football
Our fans need to learn to ignore trolls like Savage and Sutton. If people in this country could just learn to ignore attention seekers saying what they don't think, Piers Morgan would never have been able to become a popular TV host. -
I don't think you can look at some of the penalties Man U have been given the last couple of years, then compare those to the penalties against them overturned by VAR (Brighton and WBA) and think that's not a bit dodgy.

Newcastle United Managers - The Premier League Years
ilikenewcastle replied to Rafalove's topic in Football
1 Keegan (1st spell) - doesn't get enough credit from non-Newcastle fans for what he did here. Everyone always talks about "I'd love it" - never the fact he took us from the brink of League 1 to 2nd in the Prem. 2 Sir Bobby - happy times. 3 Rafa - gave us a club to be really proud of after years of depression. Finishing 10th with a side that was definitely not top half in terms of quality was an underrated achievement. 4 Hughton - Just below Rafa. Like him, he was a great ambassador for this club and did a good job at a time we could easily have fallen apart. Oversaw a high number of iconic wins in his scandalously short spell in the Prem. 5 Keegan (2nd spell) - top half finish in 08/09 if he stayed. 6 Roeder - his spell as caretaker was genuinely fantastic but his awful CV should have prevented him being made permanent. Didn't think his full season in the Prem was too disastrous given our injury problems and lack of squad depth, but the UEFA and FA cup exits were unforgivable. 7 Dalglish - was in charge for some memorable games and made some good signings, but taking the 2nd best team in the country, tearing it apart and then finishing bottom half? Rubbish. 8 Gullit - Crap, but FA Cup final. 9 Pardew - the 5th place season was a great time to support the club and he deserves credit for that. The 2 and a half years that followed were so depressing that I find it amazing it only lasted 2 and a half years - felt like 20. 10 Allardyce - rubbish, but not here long enough to cause lasting damage. 11 Kinnear - embarrassing. 12 Souness - Inherited a good side that needed a bit of work, instead he set us back 10 years. Was meant to sort out the dressing room but messed that up too. Some good cup runs in 2005, but they fell apart so horribly I think I'd rather we hadn't bothered getting that far. 13 McClaren - pathetic. Whatever he once had (did well at boro), it had definitely gone and his smiling face in the post defeat interviews made me mad. Side wasn't great, but easily good enough to stay up that year. 14 Carver - was obviously never suitable to manage in the Prem, it's outrageous he was not replaced until the end of the year. Dread to think how many points we'd have got if we was in charge for the full season. -
I kinda agree with this, but you know the stadium will still be packed all of next season when Nigel Pearson is in charge.

He's a poor man's Adama Traore (and he's quite bad).

I've got no complaints with the red card but it winds me up so much that refs never waste an opportunity to send our players off (and Mike Dean could have shown a yellow card and probably escaped criticism even from Wolves players/fans), but other teams are seemingly free to elbow our players as much as they want,
-
Come on. I wasn't a fan of it either but Yedlin is a professional footballer. Playing at CB instead of RB doesn't mean we should expect him to forget how to defend. The fact that players like Yedlin are in the team at all is the reason we're shite.

Giggsy doing a good job for Wales...

All this 'should we/shouldn't we finish 2nd' bulls**t will be rendered irrelevant when Colombia win their group.

Group F - Germany, Mexico, Sweden, South Korea - SWE & MEX advance
ilikenewcastle replied to Wullie's topic in Football
Mexico very unlucky to be on 6 points and still in danger of going out. Should get at least a point against Sweden though. -
It's still 5 for me. Literally nobody knows let's be honest. Swansea were down a few weeks ago and weren't Bournemouth bottom 3 fairly recently?
-
Could be a pivotal moment in their season The great thing about them is that they cannot get any sort of run going. They've failed to build on the few positive results they've had so hopefully this will be seen as another 2 points dropped!
-
Let's be honest, nobody has a clue. I couldn't possibly call the 3 teams who are going down. Not even WBA are done yet, we all know that pards can fluke a run together when needed.

Working miracles is being dramatic, they're are loads of average sides in the league including us. I wish we were average!

FA Cup 2017/18 - 4th round draw: Chelsea (a) - on BT @ 1:30pm 28/01/18
ilikenewcastle replied to Disco's topic in Football
It's rare that I can accept us not taking the cup seriously, but we have to focus everything on staying up. However, the best thing we can do to help us stay up is win this game. A home defeat to League 2 opposition is the last thing we need whilst things feel semi-positive. -
Have they specifically made red shorts for this one game? Good job, I wouldn't be able to tell them and West Brom apart if they both had white shorts.
-
It's still a 5 for me, and that's assuming we don't significantly strengthen next month. It really is in the balance. Lascelles return is huge, our semi-competent defending of recent games has to carry on or we're f****d.

Newcastle United vs Manchester City - 27/12/17 @ 19:45 live on Sky
ilikenewcastle replied to Decky's topic in Football
I think we'll do OK and only lose by 2. -
This x 1000. Will never understand people who can't wait to have a pop at Rafa, the top quality manager who stuck by us in this frigging Championship ffs.
-
It's easy to be baffled by some of the things Rafa does, but it's always worth remembering just how terrible our squad is. People seem to think all our problems can be solved by swapping one crap player with another.

5.1 It's basically all about January
-
5 - still too early to tell. We're still at the stage of the season where one win can make a dramatic difference.
