I never understood the logic behind starting Sels. Rafa obviously took this game seriously, so why not play our best keeper? It's not like he'd have been too worn out for the Forest game.
-
What does it even mean? What sort of person is genuinely impressed by this?!
-
Agreed. These are especially weird when done to commemorate a terrorist attack (or anything that results in multiple deaths)
-
Just saw his missed chance from yesterday. Not as bad as some people suggested, but it's what I hate to see from a striker. All he's thinking about is getting rid of the ball as soon as possible, his priority isn't to score.
-
Exactly. I mean it's not the most exciting signing of all time, but it makes sense to me. Surely after the least few years, people can understand the need for squad players, and players who can make an impact now. It's about time we made a purely short term signing!

Official: Yoan Gouffran signs new contract with Goztepe

Sissoko saved us from going down in 2013, man. Never looking the part for f*** sake. Sissoko looked the part way before (and after) Gouffran. Maybe I was a little harsh on him, but saying he saved us in 2013 is pretty generous. The man has never performed consistently for us. -

Always been a bit sympathetic towards old Goofy. He was one of the few players who could genuinely claim to be 'pardewed'. He was a very effective player for us at one stage before he was transformed into a useless defensive sack of nothing under pards. If he'd left in 2014, he'd have gone down as a very good signing. Meanwhile, people like Sissoko and Mapou got a free pass for ages despite never really looking the part. -
Agree with a lot of what is said on here. I do think we'll go up, but this is hopefully a wake up call to all the fans acting like Billy Bigballs just lately. We've a good manager and some talented players, but if you concede cheap set piece goals to rubbish 6 foot 7 strikers, you'll not do much in the championship. We'll need the nous and togetherness from 2009/10 if we are to go up.

Group B - Wales (Q), England (Q), Slovakia (Q), Russia

Football can be a bastard. 1 minute away from that being genuinely one of our best opening games ever. I don't want to overreact, I think the result was 90% bad luck but the subs were clearly crap. The game was tailor made for Vardy (even before you take into account Kane's ineffectiveness). Wales game is massive now, but I'm feeling cautiously optimistic... -
I don't really see any evidence to suggest Hodgson is holding back this group of players. We should make the quarter finals with ease, before our defence costs us. Anything less would be a failure on Roy's part. TCD, I'm still interested in knowing who Switzerland have who is better than every single English player

Wouldn't want to be a young player at Man Utd. Should be interesting, when's the last time Mourinho inherited a team that finished as low as 5th? Have a feeling he won't do especially well.
-
Feel for Chris Hughton. They've overachieved all season and have been fantastic throughout. The play offs are brutal.

Suspect package forces abandonment of Man Utd vs Bournemouth

Good news. This was surely the best possible reason for a 'bomb' being in the stadium. -
Mate, it's a hypothetical nonsense of a discussion. Everyone wants both Benitez to stay and Ashley to go. I am aware of that, I just can't believe there are people out there who wouldn't want Ashley gone at all costs.
-
The scaremongering from people voting B is amusing. It reminds me of the people who said "be careful what you wish for" when myself and others wanted Pardew out. Ashley has messed up everything that had any potential to make this club great, why do people think it's going to be any different under Benitez? Voting A is a vote for revenge? Nonsense, it's a vote for removing a man who is overseeing one of the worst spells in our history A spell that is 100% down to the way he has run the club and was entirely avoidable.

Big statement, but actually think about what that means for a second. It would mean I'd be able to go back and support my team. What's not to like? You would really prefer us to be Conference North but without Mike Ashley than in the Premier League with him? Really? Big statement, but actually think about what that means for a second. It would mean there is genuine hope that one day we could have a club that tries to win things, and an owner who isn't a vile pig who takes the p**s out of us all. You would feel more confident in us winning a significant trophy with a new owner in the Conference North? Aye, alright. Mike Ashley literally sets the club up to avoid winning anything of significance, so my statement was not as absurd as you suggest.

Planes flying over stadia has to be one of the most tragic things you see in football these days. They can mock all they like, I'd rather be Newcastle in the Conference than Sunderland in the PL.
-
A). I'm very fond of Rafa, but I would take Newcastle in the Conference North if it meant we got rid of fatty.
-
Can't believe how many fans think this guy is some sort of legend. Was as culpable as any player when we went down, and did bugger all to get us back up.
-
I think it's obvious that some sort of mass boycott is definitely worth a try, and I really do think sustained action would have an effect. People who doubt the effectiveness of any potential boycott need to be honest and admit they just like going to matches. As has been suggested, too many of our fans are obsessed with our mad and loyal reputation and frankly, wouldn't give a s**t if we were in League 2.

Newcastle United vs Tottenham Hotspur - Sunday 15th May @ 15:00 (No TV)
ilikenewcastle replied to 54's topic in Football
let's be honest, most people who go will probably be cheering the players because they're dead loyal!!! -
What an absolute f*** up this guy has been. 2 relegations and 2 near misses. We never came close to relegation before in the PL era. If we're down, and there's not a poisonous atmosphere at the spurs game, our fans have failed. A club of our stature cannot continue to put up with this.
-
I would expect them to get at least 4 points from their next 2. Probably best that we're relegated ASAP. Today hurt far more than the Norwich/Southampton defeats because recent results gave me false hope.
