This has been a thoroughly wonderful walk back through history. Really enjoyed reading this thread

Yet our brain trust decided to give him the top job and even a place on the board !! Funny how folks on here knew when we were first linked with him that this would be a bad appointment (although I think not many thought it would turn out as bad as it did) and we are just a bunch of spotty no life teens !! While the so called experts, people who make a living from this sport couldn't see that and thought he was the man to bring the good times back to our club. I remember when Pardew left, Mark Douglas, probably one of the better ones at Thompson House, was telling us all how McClaren was the man we should be going after, now of course he's the first to tell us how terrible appointment he was. I dont remember Douglas singing his praises but it totally felt that we were being force fed how wonderful mcclaren was from the crayon of lee ryder.

I'm completely with TCD on this one. I didn't want him when the chance was there to appoint a 'new broom' as it were, and whilst I hoped he would prove me wrong and be a surprise answer to the awful period under the sh*t camel that was pardew and his igor-esque replacement, he lived up to what I thought he would be. He was inadequate as a manager of this club, totally caved into the regimes transfer policies of buying 500 "number tens" and/or attacking midfielders without having the balls to stand up to them. He came in knowing what the job was and the restraints. Anyone could see it hadn't worked and never would. On those grounds, at best he was a naive fool with not enough courage or experience or he was a devious tosser who saw another pay day at the expense of NUFC. Either way, that's not good enough and in no way would I ever wish him well. Don't dislike him as much as I absolutely detest pardew but he has my heavy disdain.

Had a quick look at some of their forums (some are just terribly formatted, so very grateful for this forum) and it's really mixed. Some are dead against it, mainly due to the way he left and there's others who feel he will bring back flowing attacking football.

You are talking about Elliot right in a Darlow thread ? May want to make that clearer. You're right, my apologies. There was so much Elliot talk in the thread already I thought I was in the Elliot thread. My own fault for not double checking.

I dislike him for several reasons: 1) He was bought by pardew* 2) The nightclub incident 3) He's not very good 4) He has the same name as an outfield player who played for us and I hate that nearly as much as wrongly assigned squad numbers *for the sakes of my argument I am believing he was bought by that tosser.

Judge is very much a technical player like. He's a dwarf. Never seen him. I just meant in general. I really hope that the next few players we sign are very good on the ball. Hopefully we can get at least 3 more in. Winger, LB and a striker. Ideally i'd like us to get a good creative CM as well, one that can run the show and dictate the play and tempo as well as being able to make a good final ball. But i'dbe happy with 3 players, but i just can't see us getting all of these unless we get one of them in very soon. Deals can happen quite quick from nowhere to be fair. And we're probably working on a few at the same time. Fingers crossed that we get what we need. I keep seeing this about needing a creative midfielder, are Shelvey and Diame not exactly that? Yeah, I've been wondering that myself. So you're content with Colback playing every now and then? And dont tell me that Colback is a defensive midfielder, as being s*** going forward doesnt make you a DM and he is s*** defensively anyway. I said that it would be a bonus if we could get another CM, and I don't mean an extremely attacking one, but one that is good both ways and has a good range of passing and can be a bit creative. Controlling the tempo and dictating play. Winger and LB and striker should be higher priority of course. Nope, never mentioned colback and am not happy about him ever getting playing time for us. I don't think he's any sort of footballer, never mind a type of midfielder. The type you describe is ideal and I agree with you entirely. I popped in because I was wondering why folks (on enough previous posts for it to become a theme) are asking for more creative midfielders when we have 2 already. Only so many spaces in squad, never mind a team. Always up for improvements on what we have though.

pretty much sums up my thoughts about him. Not sure Morecambe will want him but I'm there in a few weeks time so happy to take him there. Or just leave him somewhere on the M6.

Yeah, definitely a positive against Fulham. One of the only ones I thought could actually create something tonight. Always felt more confident when he had the ball.
