Newcastle United 3-3 Manchester City (21/08/2022)
Happinesstan replied to Yorkie's topic in Football
I get the sense that there is an unspoken rule where the defensive player makes a slight contact and the attacker goes down in a controlled manner, thus avoiding injury. A bit like touch football I guess. Any tackle that leaves the attacker unable to do that would therefore be considered reckless and result in a red. -
I firmly believe we'll get the most out of Bruno as a DM, but in a high press. Trouble is he's so determined to win he gets drawn further forward, which is fantastic but could always lead to problems. Somebody he can rely on in that area would be the best addition we could make right now.

Kieran Trippier: to join Wolves on a free (various)

We're building a reputation that will get in the heads of the opposition. How do you deal with ASM How do you get past Joelinton How do you beat Nick pope Teams are going to have to work hard all week to beat us. -

Sheedy for the indirect 10 yards from goal. -
My confidence in him grew with each Man City attack. That one where he just stood and seemed to repel Haaland's shot using the force was brilliant. I know it was straight at him but it was with force and he was statuesque..

1 in 3 so far this season. He'll score. He'll miss some as well. But his growing confidence will swing those figures in his favour. Definitely one of my favourites that I wouldn't replace unless it's somebody special. No doubt in my mind Willock is the weak link in our team. He looked fuckin stoned for their first goal.
-
I think his aggression is similar to what Mitro had, only Mitro had a reputation so refs were often looking for a reason. He doesn't have that reputation and hopefully can keep it that way.
-
Chelsea he switched off defensively, but I think Everton was more a case of switching on offensively. He saw an opportunity [sucked in maybe] to break the attack down and counter. Don't think he does that if we're 1-0 up.
-
I'm not sure but I think he played a vital role in Trippier's goal. I suspect it might have been his movement that convinced the keeper to lean that way just enough that he couldn't reach Trippier's shot.

There is a grey area. The accuracy with which they choose the frame which they base their decision upon. The movement and speed of the players involved means you cannot get an accurate picture from one frame. Of course, it's possible they do all the necessary calculations but we the viewer only get to see the compelling evidence.

His focus when he takes a free-kick is mind-blowing. Beckham vs Greece levels, on a consistent basis. I knew he had a reputation, but I don't think he's ever lived up to it to this degree. -
There was one moment he had 3 consecutive bad touches, each one worse than the last. I was sure he'd lost out then he pings this 90 degree ball through the centre. He's a wizard of some sort.

Oh FFS.
-
We need bodies attacking the box to prevent the opposition doubling up on him, and somebody overlapping.
-
looks a bit like Fizz off Corrie, in that pic.

I said somewhere else, we all know Man City have the quality to destroy teams in a 15 minute spell, we lost our concentration for a brief period, after our third goal, but they equalised in the 64th minute [I think], we held them for 30 minutes after that. Not bad for his home debut, all in all.
-
I think they were checking to see if Wilson had touched it, if he had Miggy would have been offside. EDIT: As above.

Emil Krafth to leave club at end of the season (Official)

The planned substitution was Ritchie for Maxi, but Burn was concussed. Does his concussion mean he can't play against Tranmere? -
Obertan for Cabella
-
Aye. Even Man City had shaky moments, such was he intensity of the match. Botman coped a lot better than Walker.
-
Somebody already wrote one called 'Striker'. I believe.
-
3rd in PL clean sheets last season, for relegated Burnley. Edit: Might have been this year, so includes his two for us.
-
Aye. Looked like a miss from Haaland, at first, but it was a perfect shot and an incredible save.
-
It's hardly unfair to point out he had a few shaky moments, thought he did well in a game of such intensity. he could easily have fell to pieces but he didn't. I think he'll improve, but I've no problem with giving him more time to settle in. Time I think he would have got, but for Targett's injury.
