Targett who will start, Dummett who is unsellable due to injuries, Ritchie who's a big dressing room personality, Manquillo who's versatile/relatively reliable, and Lewis who's promising but needs game time. I'd have kept him, but I can understand why Howe wants to send him out. Absolutely essential that there's a recall clause in there though.

I think as soon as Villa signed Digne a few people mentioned it yeah. I see this as a Dummett replacement (at least in the short term) - he seems to fit the same mould as him, solid defensively with not much going forward.

Think this signing should only be one for the future. Buying him because we're desperate up front and need someone to throw straight in seems naive considering his age and the pressure that would be put on him.

If it's any consolation Yorkie, AM (on the break/half turn) is always the first position that comes to mind when I think of him and it seems that that's the position he plays the least.

So we're probably looking at: Dubravka Trippier - Schar - Burn - Targett Guimeraes - Shelvey Fraser - Joelinton - ASM Wood/Ekitike Dubravka Trippier - Schar - Burn - Targett Fraser - Guimeraes - Joelinton - ASM Wood - Ekitike Some big upgrades, with Shelvey and Fraser sticking out like sore thumbs. Looking at that I'm probably most pleased with the overhaul of the defence and the protection for the defence. Would have liked a more prolific striker, but I can't fault their intentions at all and still think the majority of the signings are solid to excellent on paper.

Targett and Burn should be solid defensively like, so I'm happy with those. Not Digne and Carlos, but still good and smart signings. The only thing that doesn't make sense with Targett is Villa going from 2 good left backs, one attacking and one defensive, to leaving themselves with only one. You'd think they're bringing someone else through or signing/loaning a replacement.

Wouldn't want him to. I know people are always keen to get rid of players they don't like, but there's more to it than just their quality on the pitch. Ritchie has been and imo is a very positive character to have in our situation.
