  1. Willock was playing down the left and we signed Tonali to strengthen the midfield, think the lack of quality on right was glaring for a club going into the CL.
  2. I agree there’s a transfer committee all I’ve said is he had final say previously. Going back to the Amazon documentary though it was pretty clear that Staveley said Eddie really wants Gordon and she was doing all the negotiating. Hey the manager should definitely have a say not disputing that, but my opinion is it was a bit cosy with Staveley and last summer was a misstep, granted the first window they had, my personal view is that to get to the next level and with the complexities of PSR, it needs a football strategist like Mitchell to maybe sometimes pull rank and say for example where selling Trippier in January to avoid trouble in the summer.
  3. Did we not sign Gordon to replace ASM ? On Ashworth I would think it a bit naive as in most jobs to believe the job description is exactly as it says on the tin. The below article doesn’t give the impression that Ashworth was in control of transfers, but that is was Staveley doing the deals. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5652769/2024/07/24/newcastle-eddie-howe-structure/ This article confirms he previously held veto on transfers https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5650178/2024/07/23/manchester-united-transfer-latest-arsenal-liverpool-real-madrid/ What does Howe want to stay? Howe is not demanding a set number of signings nor stipulating specific targets be brought in. The head coach is not even insisting upon total autonomy on recruitment (he previously held the final say on incoming). On Friday, he admitted “things like that are still being worked on” and he does not know if that remains the case. Howe is seeking a collective approach to transfer business and wants to retain influence while working constructively alongside Mitchell — whose role was described by Eales as being “90 per cent recruitment”. Let me know if I can do anymore research for you ?
  4. Jobs for the boys no thanks.
  5. Clearly the financial side would be signed off by PIF, but the final selection finance permitting was down to Howe that’s on record. It’s been widely reported that Ashworth was unsatisfied with the scope of his job and he didn’t have the responsibility he first thought, does that really suggest he was behind the strategy, I believe outside of the financial problems for Staveley, the power lines were part of the problem and one of the reasons their exit was hastened. Last summer I’d have targeted a pacy CB and right sided forward, Barnes was an expensive backup in a position we’d just spent 40 million on in January.
  6. It’s well documented Howe had final say on transfers, yes their should be a committee, but the SD should have final say in my book as the farce at the start of this window showed.
  7. About sums it up they’re off their tits in a land of make believe.
  8. Find Anfield an absolute chore from city centre in an absolute shit area, nowhere has the city centre buzz like Newcastle on match days. We are very lucky to have the location, even though i’m a massive advocate for a new stadium it must be just up Barrack Road or by the river.
  9. Delighted Mitchell has come in and is overseeing the window, if he has paused deals to re-evaluate then he’s doing his job in my opinion. Last summer was ill thought out strategically and left us way short, Eddie might be a great coach but with PSR concerns the transfer approach needs mapped out to take us to the next level and that should be Mitchell’s final say going forward.
  10. Must have taken him ages to get through security at the airport.
  11. A massive fuck off blue star illuminated on the roof of stadium.
  12. Looks a unit in that video and all over attackers like a rash impressive.
  13. In isolation it’s not a bad strip but when compared to previous version it falls short, not sure what the obsession is with making the badge white though.
  14. Bloody shame if scousers get Ederson had him down as a dark horse signing this summer especially if Longstaff goes.
  15. Once a cunt always a cunt
  16. Think the 3rd strip should have official badge and trefoil would be much better. If we were going to use the NUFC badge it should have been with a silver strip like original.
  17. I think it’s pretty clear Howe likes total control over football matters, he’s never worked at a big club and unfortunately he needs to get used to this set up, he clearly had Amanda’s ear and that probably played a part in Ashworth fucking off. In saying that he’s clearly best man for job, someone like Poch would have been a dream when takeover happened, but his stock has fallen massively and wouldn’t excite me one bit now. Let’s hope everyone gives it a go this season, think the transfer window certainly is going to be a test for the new dynamic and whether Mitchell and Howe’s vision aligns on transfer strategy.
  18. It could but if I was a betting man and it’s unlikely club would want to publicise he’s injured already.
  19. Highlighted that he missed training, so unless he didn’t travel, or had a dodgy Bratwurst history would suggest he’s very much in the Wilson mould.
  20. Think the Lloyd Kelly one is even more concerning bearing in mind we’ve just given him a big contract, sign of things to come with him as well unfortunately.
  21. Away from transfers I would imagine the performance director is one area Howe was certainly alluding to. Be very interesting how that dynamic works with him and Bunce.
  22. I’ve got no doubt Mitchell has good intentions and wants to work with Howe, but the detail is what matters to Eddie and he’s clearly indicating he has no idea how this is going to work. They’ll all clearly going to try and make it work and I’d be massively surprised if Howe didn’t start the season here, but a lot will depend on if their strategies align with recruitment and sales due to PSR. No guarantees it’s an uncertain period the dynamics have massively changed.
  23. Transformative for Shearer as well, as much as he didn’t get on with Bellamy in the end, he undoubtedly prolonged Shearers career at the top level.
  24. Press undoubtedly love shit like this, but think the quotes from him are very clear and he’s unsure if the current structure will work for him at this point. Amanda was his biggest fan and it’s only natural he’ll now be unsettled, he clearly wants to stay but on his terms which i would imagine includes full say on transfers.
  25. He’s had the run of the place and final say on transfers even with Ashworth there, crucially have the new regime agreed this. Also talk of wanting Almiron and Wilson to stay doesn’t scream of looking at bigger picture with PSR.
